Happy birthday to
lexie_marie! May you have a wonderful day and many more to come.
I have some links to share ...
* From Booklist Online: "Core Collection: Dystopian Fiction for Youth." Booklist notes some forthcoming sequels of which I was unaware, and so I've updated my list of YA dystopias accordingly. (Thanks to
sunnysky.)
* Also from Booklist Online: "Top 10 SF/Fantasy for Youth: 2009."
* Paul Kincaid has an in-depth and thought-provoking review of The Seven Beauties of Science Fiction by
Istvan Csicsery-Ronay, Jr. at SFSite here.
* The incomparable Ursula K. Le Guin once again defends the genre: "Calling Utopia a Utopia": "Editors, critics, and others who use it not as a description but as a negative judgment are wrong to do so. And they do wrong. They are gravely unjust both to the science fiction of literary value that they refuse to admit is literature, and the science fiction of literary value they refuse to admit is science fiction."
* Yesterday marked the return of that irregularly-occurring and much-loved holiday I have celebrated since 1994, new Tori Amos album day. I've been listening to Abnormally Attracted to Sin constantly, and thus far, "Curtain Call," "Welcome to England," and "500 Miles" are my very first loves, but the album is extremely strong from start to finish. Here is the remarkable "Curtain Call":
"Stories walk the truth into existence."
