R.I.P., Davy Jones (30 December 1945 – 29 February 2012)

I was in intermediate high school when Monkees fever hit the United States (for the second time around), and I pulled out my mother's vinyl records, bought every new single and album, and watched reruns of The Monkees faithfully on MTV. One of my favorite memories of those years was seeing the band play during their 20th Anniversary Tour in 1986, which was a ridiculously fun and fabulous concert.

Less than four years ago, in the fall of 2008, I had the good fortune to see Davy Jones perform solo (and here's my mini-review).

It's sad news that Davy Jones now is gone. The end of an era indeed. *holds up virtual lighter*

I'm sad, too! I followed his career in my young teen days, and loved the TV series! :-(

Yes, I'd just seen that :-(

My sister will be heartbroken. She was in elementary school during the 80s Monkees craze and had all their music on cassette tapes and pins she'd wear with their pictures on it. :-)

I went to one of their concerts in the 1980's, and they were fantastic. I used to love their show when I was a little kid. And yes, Davy was my favorite.

Such sad news!

I loved them with all my little girl heart, had all their albums, watched the show, danced my tiny feets off to them, and Davy was so dreamy. And still relatively young! (Am I really at the age when old pop-hearthrobs are likely to pass away suddenly like this?)

Oh NO. Just...oh oh oh. So sad. I too watched them on MTV, and went to see them on their 20th anniversary tour. I'm just...

*whimpers*

Thank you for that. :)

He died so young! I thought Davy's accent was so exotic when I was 5. This really bums me out.

I am much more upset about this than I would have thought. I was in middle school when Nickelodeon was airing endless repeats of the show, and it was my first fandom to share with someone else. My friend and I watched every episode faithfully, recorded the musical interludes into our boomboxes and made mixtapes, and passed endless notes in classes about our guys, although she was a Davy fangirl and I was a Mike one.

It really is like a piece of my childhood is gone.

I came home from work to this news last night. It's so sad. I had such a crush on Davy Jones when I was wee. I've always believed you could tell a lot about a woman by who her favourite member of The Monkees was. For me, Davy set the mould for my lifelong affection towards small, sweet-faced men.
