Happy Birthday, Frank Herbert!

Happy birthday to Frank Herbert (8 October, 1920 – 11 February, 1986)!

dune trilogy by frank herbert 1

"I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain."
- Frank Herbert, Dune (1965)

One of my favorite trilogies

I feel, more and more, that God Emperor of Dune jumped an ocean of sharks, but I still love reading the first three novels. And the Programmer's Mantra is my favorite Dune parody. ;)

Ah, the Programmer's Mantra! I haven't thought of that in ages. :D Thanks for the fan goodness. I'm grinning like a loon now.

It is by caffeine alone!

I read the first five or six or this massive work, but it got to be too much for me after awhile. It may even still be going with his son.

I'm in a permanent state of denial that the books his son wrote (and is still writing?) even exist. ;) I love the first six, the ones by Frank himself, but after trying a couple of the others and learning my lesson, I'm sticking to the originals. *turns back on Brian H.* LOL!

I must not lose my temper.
Temper-temper-temper is the bum-killer.
Temper is the little mistake which leads to you lying
On the ground wondering
Oi! What's with all this spreading pool of blood, then?
