"a wonderful place to visit"
Apr. 9th, 2007 09:20 amI'm back from the conference in New Hampshire, which was both productive and, to my surprise and delight, quite heavily snowed upon.
Just a couple of quick notes:
*
sturgisinreason is a new syndicated LJ feed for my articles in Reason Magazine, once they graduate from the hard-copy version and are posted online.
* 2007 marks the centennial of the birth of the Grand Master himself, and one of my very favorite authors, Robert Heinlein.
Here are some very recent articles about this anniversary:
"Heinlein's Ghost" by Dwayne A. Day
"Robert Heinlein at One Hundred" by Ted Gioia
And for additional information:
The Heinlein Society
The Robert A. Heinlein Page
Robert A. Heinlein Centennial Website
"All my life I've wanted to go to Earth. Not to live, of course - just to see it. As everybody knows, Terra is a wonderful place to visit but not to live. Not truly suited for human habitation."
- Robert A. Heinlein, Podkayne of Mars (1963)

Oddly enough, I found that Julian May feels very similar to me in her writing - very down to earth, accepting of sex of all kinds, believing in the expansion and potential of the human race, believing everybody should know the basic skills of living, having a cranky but lovable and wise old man as a main protagonist, thoroughly rooting her AU's in science, and so on.
Some of my faves: "The Moon is a Harsh Mistress", and the double book "Waldo and Magic, Inc.".
Sorry, I probably wrote all this before in your journal, but how often does one get to fangirl old Bob? *G*

The Moon is a Harsh Mistress definitely is a favorite of mine, as well! :)

Well said! Not often enough, that's for sure. :)
