Happy birthday to
jasonbsizemore,
_snitchbitch, and
dannyboy8406. May all three of you enjoy a wonderful day and a terrific year to come!
Many thanks to
st_crispins and
savageseraph for the wonderful squirrel love for my Profile page.
* I couldn't be happier with the fantastic reception I received for my presentation Friday night at Lenoir-Rhyne University. Many thanks to everyone who attended!
* On a related note, I wanted to be sure that I posted information about the free Cherokee (Tsalagi) language courses available through iTunes.
-- Here are two podcasts:
Culturev Cherokee Podcast
NDNTV: Native American Language Revitalization Tools
-- The following are available through iTunes U:
Emory University > Academics & Research > Cherokee (Tsalagi)
Western Carolina University > Cherokee Language 101
* After bravely enduring several surgeries and a related infection, our best friend Virginia is very much on the mend. Thanks to everyone who sent good wishes her way for her recovery. Here she is, working hard at her recuperation:

"March is the month of expectation,
The things we do not know,
The Persons of Prognostication
Are coming now.
We try to sham becoming firmness,
But pompous joy
Betrays us, as his first betrothal
Betrays a boy."
- Emily Dickinson, XLVIII

Date: 2010-03-16 10:06 pm (UTC)I need to get this off my chest: One time before class you were squeeing about the fact that the dedication in the book that you were looking at was in Cherokee (you said that out loud), and I AWKWARDLY asked if you could read Cherokee, and you said yes. Then I felt stupid because OF COURSE you do. I guess I was thinking that maybe you could've just recognized it without knowing it. Heh. I'm sure you didn't say it in a mean way or anything, but I kicked myself for speaking. I remember the most random details sometimes...
That's an especially cute photo of VA! She has very pretty brown eyes. Glad she's getting better. :)

And I'll be writing you a proper letter soon! I've enjoyed getting your cards in recent weeks. Thank you!! ♥

Date: 2010-03-17 02:07 pm (UTC)As for the Cherokee, you shouldn't have felt stupid - it was a perfectly legitimate question! Lots of people study cultures whose languages they can't read. (And I'm sure you weren't awkward.) I'm sorry if my response was off-putting in any way; I certainly didn't mean it to be. It was kind of you to be interested.
