I have been very remiss in sharing R.I.P.s of late. My most recent "Looking Back in Genre History" segment is now available on the latest episode of StarShipSofa, and it includes a tribute to a few of the greats the science fiction community has lost recently. (If you listen, I hope you enjoy!)

Incidentally, there are very few tickets left for SofaCON (the live, interactive, international, and online science fiction convention hosted by StarShipSofa). It looks like this event will sell out well before the day of the festivities (July 28, 2013), so please grab your ticket now if you're interested. I hope to see you there!

Richard Matheson - I Am Legend Cover

Here is a longer list of some of the genre legends we have lost recently. May they rest in peace! They will not be forgotten.

That's some list :( Let's hope it doesn't get too much longer in the second half of the year.

Unfortunately, it is. :( Let's hope, indeed!

Very sorry to hear of Richard Matheson's passing. I finished "I Am Legend" about the time he died. I loved the ending to the story much better than the movie. Really brilliant.

I agree with you about Matheson. What an amazing talent and sad loss. I also agree wholeheartedly about the ending to I Am Legend: the book wins, hands down! BTW, have you seen The Last Man on Earth with Vincent Price? It's my favorite adaptation of I Am Legend. It has yet another ending, different than the Will Smith version and much more effective, although I still like the novel's ending best.

Oh? I had no idea the two were connected. I really dig Vincent Price (his voice will forever be ingrained into my psyche as Rattigan in The Great Mouse Detective) and make a habit of watching a lot of him and Hitchcock come Halloween. I've not seen that one though. Will definitely have to add that to my list! Thanks for the recommendation.
