Happy Birthday, Frank Herbert!
Oct. 8th, 2014 12:45 pmHappy birthday to Frank Herbert (8 October, 1920 – 11 February, 1986)!

"I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain."
- Frank Herbert, Dune (1965)

Date: 2014-10-11 01:51 am (UTC)I'll confess to more tolerance (appreciation, maybe) for Lynch's version, but I also recognize that has a lot to do with how old I was when I saw it, and the nostalgia factor it had for me. Fortunately, I'd already read the six novels, so I could appreciate the craziness, too (Patrick Stewart was so wildly miscast). But still. I'll confess, though, that Richard Jordan was a stud in his own right.
Also, Francesca Annis as Lady Jessica is now my headcanon.
BTW, the first car I ever owned was named Duncan for Duncan Idaho (the book character, not the film character, stud or no).
