Mar. 22nd, 2007 06:19 amI have a few links to share today:
* The March 2007 issue of The Irish Journal of Gothic and Horror Studies is now online, and I highly recommend it. The issue includes some excellent reviews and articles, on such topics as Dracula, Pan's Labyrinth, Fritz Leiber, and Francis Lathom. I particularly suggest Patricia MacCormack's article "Baroque Intensity: Lovecraft, Le Fanu and the Fold."
* I was remiss in not pointing out earlier Neal Stephenson's op-ed in The New York Times about how the pundits have missed the boat in understanding the phenomenon of 300: "It's All Geek to Me."
* The Libertarian Futurist Society has named the finalists for this year's Prometheus Award: Empire by Orson Scott Card, The Ghost Brigades by John Scalzi, Glasshouse by Charles Stross, Rainbows End by Vernor Vinge, and Harbingers by F. Paul Wilson.

The Ghost Brigades by John Scalzi
I have several Scalzi fans in my group of freinds (although I have not read him myself) - They will be pleased to hear that.

Date: 2007-03-23 08:10 pm (UTC)The timing just sucks - Even if you had been around, the subject matter is very profound and disturbing and it might not have been good for in the middle of grieving your Grandma. But do see it - Just be forewarned that it is profoundly violent at times and takes a bit of concentration.
