U.S. author Kurt Vonnegut, Jr., born 1922, died yesterday at the age of 84. His novels include SF classics Player Piano (1952), The Sirens of Titan (1959), Cat's Cradle (1963), God Bless You, Mr. Rosewater (1965), and Slaughterhouse Five (1969), along with later works Galapagos (1985) and Timequake (1997). His dystopian SF short story "Harrison Bergeron" is widely regarded by many - including yours truly, who teaches it every semester - as a genre masterpiece.

:-(

You know, he was up there, though. 84 is pretty damn good.

But yeah. Wow, who's going to tell us stories from the Howard Johnson on the moon now? *wanders off sadlike*

Oh. Goodness.

I'll never forget the day in my AP English class my senior year of high school when one of my friend-of-friends stood up to do a short book report on "Breakfast of Champions." I was floored, and not just because it had somewhat risque drawnings in it. I became hooked on KV and have held his created word 'duprass' from a book I can't remember now, in my heart for years. Thank you for the notice; I hadn't heard about that.

Oh, man. This sucks. Thanks for keeping me in the loop. I think my heart is a little broken right now.
