Happy August, everyone!
* First of all, I have some personal news about our Boston terrier, Virginia:
I just had to share this. To raise funds and awareness for the local chapter of the Humane Society, Lenoir-Rhyne College held a Cutest Pet Contest. Of course my husband entered our girl Virginia. Dogs and cats were allowed, and everyone on campus could vote. There were 26 finalists. And guess what we just found out? SHE WON!!!!!!! So here is the Cutest Pet Contest winner herself, in her winning picture:

She's celebrating with cheese. :)
* Second,
ithidrial passed along some great news for science fiction television:
"The creators of anthology series Masters of Science Fiction revealed the program was always meant to be a gamble of sorts, which they and ABC will soon see will either pay off or go bust when it premieres Aug. 4. The hour-long show, narrated by famous Cambridge University physicist Dr. Stephen Hawking, tells classic sci-fi tales by famed writers such as Robert Heinlein and Harlan Ellison, and features notable actors such as Anne Heche, Malcolm McDowell ("Star Trek: Generations"), John Hurt, Brian Dennehy ("Cocoon"), Sean Astin (Lord of the Rings trilogy), Terry O'Quinn ("Lost") and Sam Waterston. Directors include two Academy Award nominees, Mark Rydell and Michael Petroni, as well as Jonathan Frakes, best known to genre audiences as Cmdr. William T. Riker in Star Trek: The Next Generation. Read the entire article here."
Moreover, SFSite just posted detailed (and positive) reviews for the first two episodes in this Masters of Science Fiction series. You can read them here and here.
* Third, I've added pictures to my Flickr photo albums.
August rushes by like desert rainfall,
A flood of frenzied upheaval,
Expected,
But still catching me unprepared.
Like a matchflame
Bursting on the scene,
Heat and haze of crimson sunsets.
Like a dream
Of moon and dark barely recalled,
A moment,
Shadows caught in a blink.
Like a quick kiss;
One wishes for more
But it suddenly turns to leave,
Dragging summer away.

Date: 2007-08-01 02:29 pm (UTC)I'm really interested to see the Masters of SciFi series. I hope it's more consistantly good than Masters of Horror has been. MoH always seems so cheesy to me, no matter who's directing. :/

Date: 2007-08-02 01:51 pm (UTC)(but mainly bc buster and bartleby were ineligible :) )
But of course. In that case, the competition would've locked in a perfect three-way tie! Either that, or everyone's heads would had exploded from the overload of cuteness.

PS. In so far as "harbor" can mean "such a body of water having docks," I suppose we almost have a harbor view. We're yards from the lake, which has a significant amount of boating, but the woods are so thick between our house and the lake that it can't actually be seen. If we could see through the trees (or, heaven forbid, cut them down), I suppose we would have a harbor view. Some of the people on our street do, I think. I suppose our address should be "Nearly Harbor View" instead! ;)
PPS. How are you doing? And how is little Evelyn?

Date: 2007-08-11 06:21 am (UTC)LOL re your almost Harbor View - much better to have things such as these obscured by gorgeous trees! A neighbour who's building their house next door soon (a 2-storey brick monster...sigh - er, the house that is, not the neighbour!) was commenting on the HUGE and elegant elm tree we have in our back yard, on the border with another set of neighbours: "It's too big; it'd be better to get rid of it." OMG! He was otherwise a nice seeming man.
Everything here is peachy, if a little mad (which will be a permanent state, I feel). Evie's lovely to spend time with and I find myself becoming much more insular with wanting to be domestic and do stuff with her. Never thought I'd be saying that. Having a child has humbled me a lot; mostly because I tended to ride too many hobby-horses, pre-baby, about parenting and the horror of staying at home. Now, of course, I'm riding a bunch of hobby-horses about parenting and the horror of full-time work...oy.

Ack! I hear Ents crying. :(
Best wishes with the hobby-horse riding. ;) Seriously, I hope things work out so you can have the balance of parenting time and career time that works best for you. I'm sending good vibes and best wishes your way!
