A great playwright is gone. Rest in peace, Arthur Miller.

"A fire, a fire is burning! I hear the boot of Lucifer, I see his filthy face! And it is my face, and yours, Danforth! For them that quail to bring men out of ignorance, as I have quailed, and as you quail now when you know in all your black hearts that this be fraud - God damns our kind especially, and we will burn, we will burn together!"
- Arthur Miller, The Crucible

Indeed! It's chilling in its immediate relevance, I think.

it's the price we pay, socially, for not educating kids. And for not demanding they read.
And by demanding, I mean, taking them to the library and making it fun.
Sorry, this is a bit of a rant for me lately.

No, don't apologize. I agree completely. Ideas have consequences, and not caring about ideas... well, that has consequences, too.

I'm so excited to see you got a book deal.
My sister studied Native American Studies in school and thought she might wanna teach on a reservation. Turns out she became a geographer instead. But it was deeply moving to read about them. And to hear her talk about them.
We're going to the Powwow next weekend in Northridge. Good luck with it.
I'd love to see some of your other work. If you don't mind me knowing about it.
J

Thank you so much! :) Your sister sounds like a fascinating woman. More power to her -- both for her interest in reservation issues, and for her geographical abilities (I sadly lack these, so I doubly admire them in others). Enjoy the powwow! And I'm honored you're interested in my work. I'd be happy to share my writing with you. Many of my pieces are online; my website links to all those that are available in electronic form. Or just let me know how I can help. Again, thanks for your interest and encouragement!

Isn't it sad? At least he will live on through his work, which certainly won't be forgotten.
