"Fall, leaves, fall"
Sep. 18th, 2007 09:29 amHappy (slightly early) birthday to
delenn1970! I hope you enjoy a wonderful day and then your best year yet.
And in other news...
* Neil Walsh's newest "Overlooked or Overhyped?" column spotlights one of my top five favorite novels of all time, Mary Doria Russell's The Sparrow.
* For those of you in/near North Carolina, I wanted to let you know about Lenoir-Rhyne College's Visiting Writers Series "In Their Own Words." This year's lineup (see the left side for a complete schedule) includes several Pulitzer Prize winners, and all readings/talks are completely free and open to the public.
My work on the Tecumseh biography continues steadily: I will have the manuscript completed in the next six-seven weeks. More immediately, I will be heading up to Montreal later this week to take part in an academic conference on political philosopher Benjamin Constant. I will be online only to a limited degree while I'm in Quebec. I look forward to catching up with you!
Fall, leaves, fall; die, flowers, away;
Lengthen night and shorten day;
Every leaf speaks bliss to me
Fluttering from the autumn tree.
I shall smile when wreaths of snow
Blossom where the rose should grow;
I shall sing when night's decay
Ushers in a drearier day.
