eldritchhobbit: (LOTR/Bilbo/Not at Home)

First, re: the news of Peter Jackson and the Hobbit films:

I will be curious to see how these projects unfold. Overall, my feelings are mixed. I've explained many of the reasons for this here. Additionally, there are the unresolved questions of who will direct the films, who will adapt the texts, and what, exactly, the prequel movie will encompass. At any rate, it certainly will be interesting to see how the films develop.

(Incidentally, the official Hobbit Movie Blog is syndicated for LJ as [livejournal.com profile] thehobbitfilm.)

Second, re: Harry Potter:

If you haven't heard J.K. Rowling's interview (the first of two parts) on Pottercast, I highly recommend it!

This is what I have heard
at last the wind in December
lashing the old trees with rain
unseen rain racing along the tiles
under the moon
wind rising and falling
wind with many clouds
trees in the night wind

I'm really anxious to hear more news about it. Alas, the timeline will be too early to include Boromir and Faramir, I fear..!

I, on the other hand, because I have no professor making me go :-) will not subject myself to anything that PJ does to Tolkien ever again. Because I am a mean person, I still have hopes that PJ bangs his kneecap on his desk at least once a day every day for the rest of his life in retribution for what he did to Faramir (and Sam and Frodo and Eowyn and Aragorn and . . . and . . . ).

Seriously, I hope you are right in that eventually others will tackle this wonderful story and that there will be more than one serious film adaptation of Tolkien's beautiful works. (I think if there were more to view, contemplate, compare and contrast, etc., I could eventually be partly reconciled to the PJ version.)

I don't see how there could fail to be more. We already have Rankin-Bass, Bakshi, and Jackson, and filmmaking is only now starting to gain the tools necessary to capture (some) visions of Middle-Earth. I will want to see it all, because I think I learn something even from the wrong-headed interpretations; and, of course, I'll want to know which parts of the movie to denounce vehemently to everyone I see! LOL.

As always, your clear-headed logic makes me rethink my position. :-) (I can see it now . . . you, the brilliant general; me, the crazed warrior with the blue face. Who usually wins and survives? Yup: the smart people like you.)

If the rumor that Sam Raimi will direct is true, the only question then is who Bruce Campbell would be cast as. My money is on Bard.

LOL! That's almost too much fun to contemplate.

I'm sooo looking forward to the whole production with casting rumours, director-roulette and such... Although I'm totally sure that I will have major objections to the movie again, as I had to LOTR. But, who cares? In the end any film made about Tolkien adds to the treasure chest. So, YAY!!! How will I sleep until it's 2010...?
