Hello from Providence!

My time online is quite limited, so I'll be brief. I just wanted to share a couple of quick notes:

* My latest contribution to the StarShipSofa podcast is now available here and via iTunes. My seventeen-minute spot (which begins about ten minutes into the program) is about rediscovering the fiction of Friedrich de la Motte Fouqué.

* J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter prequel is now online, and you can see it by going here.

* The 2008 Mythopoeic Awards Finalists have been announced. (Those that I nominated made the cut! Yay!) For those of you who have taken or are considering taking the Mythopoeic Awards Reading Challenge, you now can add these finalists to your list of options.

I hope all is well with you, my friends!

Seeing as how she's a subject of one of the Scholarship Award nominees, I've wondered if you've read Diana Wynne Jones's Tough Guide to Fantasyland. If you haven't, you should. She does a great job of skewering the cliches and stereotypes of both classic and LCD fantasy literature that will make you laugh (and maybe occasionally wince).

I have not read that - thanks a million for the recommendation! It certainly sounds like I need to do so.

Hello, dear new friend. I hope you are well. You certainly are traveling quite often...it appears that's par for the course for you.
I wanted to thank you for the JK Rowling prequel (that she's NOT working on :) link.
Hugs,
Lisa

Hello there! Yes, my summer schedule is a bit nuts, I'm afraid. Thank heavens for LJ, keeping me connected to everyone! :) I hope you enjoyed the prequel - I thought it was a hoot. And I hope all's well with you! Hugs to you!

I liked Rowling's little scene. And of course she's NOT working on it. (Actually, I do sort of believe her on that, but the scene is so vivid, I can imagine it will nibble at her asking for the rest of the story. heh.)

I do hope it will nibble at her! It was a great scene, wasn't it? And it left us with such tantalizing questions... :)
