I'm back from an excellent conference at Hope College and a wonderful time in Holland, Michigan, just in time to wish janissa11 a very happy birthday tomorrow. May you have a fantastic day and many more to come, my friend!

A few quick items:

* First and foremost, I have a recommendation: potboy just wrote a most remarkable story for me, "Vigil," that fills in the missing "how Qui-Gon Jinn returns to Obi-Wan as a glowing ghost'" piece of the Star Wars canon puzzle. She is an outstanding author, and this exquisite tale braids the larger threads of the Star Wars tapestry together in a profound way. I cannot recommed it highly enough to anyone interested in Star Wars and/or the ideas of the Jedi and the Force. Read it now! And thank you, potboy.

* In other news, here are the winners of this year's Hugo and John W. Campbell Awards.

* And the latest iteration of The White List, the definitive listing of writers, editors, and other publishing professionals who have LiveJournals or LJ RSS feeds, is now available here.

But this was no ink drawing. When he looked closer, each green line revealed moving shadows, golden summers, leafy glades. Every stroke opened a hair thin gap to somewhere else, and through each one there shone the infinitely deep and living light of a whole universe.

The pictures are glorious! But of course, to me, you'll both always be in Nashville, wearing Tolkien-centric t-shirts, and far less polished. ;)

Lovely to see photographs of you, however. And my very best wishes to your sister and her new husband. My heartfelt happiness to you and Mr. Eldritchhobbit, who have been together for so long and with many joyous returns.

I've even posted a Tolkien fic rec! How unexpected is that?!

Beautiful! I love the blue. That last picture of Margret and Michael is so adorable! You have a cute family, and I love how tall Dr. Larry is compared to you. Thanks for sharing! :o)

Yay for Stardust! Have you read the book? It's different in some key ways, but just as much fun.

I'm so glad you liked the blue dress! Margret did well by me, I think, in picking that out. Thanks for your kind words about the pictures. And yes, my husband does look like an elf in a room of hobbits, doesn't he? In one picture, the photographer kept moving me up the steps, higher and higher, to try to even out the height difference, but finally he just gave up. Ha! :)

It was quite a shock to see your hair up like that. I had a hard enough time adjusting when you grew your bangs out. Like thrihyrne said, we'll always remember you the way you were in Nashville. Also, I didn't notice any grays in those pics. I thought you said they were starting to come in--kinda like wisdom teeth.

Thank you so much! Yes, the hair was definitely up; it was 98 degrees that day. (Ouch!) The grays are definitely coming in, but for some reason, they don't show up as much when my hair is pulled straight back. When it's parted, though, they shine through in a serious way.

Thanks so much! L. is a Man of Gondor to my wee Hobbit; he's 6'6" and I'm 5'1". We give photographers fits, trying to work us into the same frame. :)
