Happy birthday to arkhamdenizen, and best wishes for many happy returns of the day!

And Rest In Peace, Majel Barrett Roddenberry. This loss truly marks the end of an era. From the first television pilot to the forthcoming film, she was (and is, and always will be remembered as) the face and voice of Star Trek as well as one of the genre's most beloved ambassadors. I feel privileged that I had the opportunity to see her in person and hear her give a talk. Like the Great Bird, she will not be forgotten.

Technically the Vargr were Earth wolves that had been genetically altered by the Ancients.

It's amazing how the mystery of Jack the Ripper has fueled so many imaginative stories. I can think of about six off the top of my head and I'm sure I am aware of more that are just not leaping to mind plus who knows how many I haven't heard of. I'll check out that i09 later on, that should be interesting.

Isn't it, though? There's something about that unsolved mystery that grabs each generation. It fascinates me how many different directions authors/artists/filmmakers seem to take the story, too.

Yes, I'm so glad they were able to get her parts recorded for the film! I just can't imagine Trek without her; it will be incredibly poignant to hear her voice again. And it will be terrific continuity for the movie, as well, to connect with past Trek incarnations through her.

It does employ the guilt-ridden vampire cliche too. But it's well-written and, my favorite part, has cameos from a bunch of Victorian literary figures, horror and otherwise. I'm sure you will recognize if not all of most of them.
