Patrick McGoohan

As a writer, a director, an artist, and a class act individual of integrity and vision, he has been an inspiration for well more than half a century. And for many years he has been one of my few true personal heroes.

I have seen every production of his that I possibly could find, from his inspired and passionate Brand to his charming and tongue-in-cheek "The Computer Wore Menace Shoes." His work has made an incalculable impact on me.

I maintain that his masterpiece, The Prisoner, is one of the most imporant and influential, and to my mind the greatest, television series of all time.

He was a true and uncompromising original. Patrick McGoohan, Rest in Peace.

Oh....no. This is incredibly sad! I first fell in love with him as the Disney Scarecrow, but The Prisoner was just...wow.

Thank you for the news.

Aw.

I have always LOVED The Prisoner. It had a big effect on me (especially the "Hammer into Anvel" episode).

And I keep holding out the hope that Disney will eventually release an uncut version of The Scarecrow of Romney Marsh - the full three episodes, rather than the bastardized "edited down to a 'movie' length" version.

*sigh*

I loved that episode. I can just hear him say "Disgust" as the sword point is held at his face.

I would love the uncut version of Scarecrow of Romney Marsh! Hopefully the sales of this latest release will induce Disney to offer the full version on DVD. *fingers crossed*

Oh that is so terribly sad. In case you didn't know, you can watch the full The Prisoner series online at
http://www.amctv.com/videos/the-prisoner-1960s-video/

It was indeed one of the best TV series ever.

They are making a new miniseries based on it to air later this year. Ian McKellen plays #2.

Thank you so much for the link! I didn't realize AMC had put up the full series for viewing.

I wish McGoohan had lived long enough to see and comment on the finished production of the remake. :(

*hugs*

Beautiful tribute, and so very true.

I can only hope that his passing was peaceful and that he's in a better place now. He's left behind quite a legacy that many of us will cherish for years and years to come. Rest in peace, Patrick McGoohan. You will always be my hero.

I watched the first episode last night (I bought the set a few months ago) for the first time in 42 years. It was one of those shows that made a permanent effect on me with one viewing. Reilly, Ace of Spies was another (I also have that set).

And they both co-star Leo McKern! (Yes, I also have the Rumpole set). Was he ever in an Avengers episode?

You know, I don't know if he was... but I wouldn't be surprised. Leo McKern seemed to be involved with everything interesting, didn't he?

"Permanent effect with one viewing" is a good way to describe it. I've watched the series multiple times, but it only took one viewing for it to make an indelible mark.
