Happy Halloween, Day 6
Oct. 6th, 2007 06:25 amGreetings from muggy Indianapolis. And happy birthday to
coalitiongirl. May you have a terrific day and many, many more!
Next, a couple of Halloween-related announcements and recommendations:
* If you’re looking for a game for your Saturday, or just some sarcastic taunts from an animated skeleton, check out Halloween Hangman!

* The film site Fandango wants to help you choose your Halloween costume.
And now, on to the show:
Link of the Day: 365Halloween.com (For spooky Halloween fun all year long! Be sure to check the recipes page.)
Literature of the Day: Today I give you two poems by one of my very favorite poets, Emily Dickinson (1830-1886).
"The Only Ghost I Ever Saw"
The only ghost I ever saw
Was dressed in mechlin, -- so;
He wore no sandal on his foot,
And stepped like flakes of snow.
His gait was soundless, like the bird,
But rapid, like the roe;
His fashions quaint, mosaic,
Or, haply, mistletoe.
His conversation seldom,
His laughter like the breeze
That dies away in dimples
Among the pensive trees.
Our interview was transient,--
Of me, himself was shy;
And God forbid I look behind
Since that appalling day!
"One Need Not Be A Chamber To Be Haunted"
One need not be a chamber to be haunted,
One need not be a house;
The brain has corridors surpassing
Material place.
Far safer, of a midnight meeting
External ghost,
Than an interior confronting
That whiter host.
Far safer through an Abbey gallop,
The stones achase,
Than, moonless, one's own self encounter
In lonesome place.
Ourself, behind ourself concealed,
Should startle most;
Assassin, hid in our apartment,
Be horror's least.
The prudent carries a revolver,
He bolts the door,
O'erlooking a superior spectre
More near.

Far safer through an Abbey gallop,

Than, moonless, one's own self encounter
In lonesome place.
Wow! I need to read more Emily Dickinson, I see.
