* serialsensation is a follow-up to dracula1897, the real-time reading of Dracula that elettaria and eye_of_a_cat did a few years ago: Victorian sensational novels, posted in twice-weekly installments. They are starting with Ellen Wood's 1861 novel East Lynne, a tale of drama, disguises, scandal, shame, implausible plot twists, and nail-biting cliffhangers. ABC's hit TV series Lost continues to receive attention regarding the influence of C.S. Lewis's books on the plot, themes and characters. Last year, character Charlotte Staples Lewis ("C.S. Lewis") joined the series with her arrival clearly taken from Prince Caspian. And as reported in numerous recent articles, the plot has included many parallels to Lewis's book, The Great Divorce, in which numerous people who visit the outskirts of heaven remain "lost" as they cling stubbornly and vainly to selfish ways only to prefer hell in the process. Most recently, in addition to Narnia-like magical lands, time travel and mysterious events, Lost has featured more overt symbols from Narnia, including "The Lamp Post" positioned at the island's entrance, just as it is found at the edge of Narnia in The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe. Further parallels pertain to The Voyage of the Dawn Treader.

LOL! Like any scrunchie, it fits around one's hair to form a ponytail. However, the lovely Sayid seems to feel the need to hold back his lustrous black locks only when there's a need for interrogations...!

I thought of you when I saw that new community! :)

I've been a fan of Lost since it began. A science fiction show with characters named Locke, Rousseau, Hume, Bentham, etc. - what's not to love? It's like Political Theory 101! And the show makes brilliant use of literature, too. There's even a Lost book club to promote reading the books referenced by the series. I think you'd enjoy it.

That reading of Lost is really interesting. Unfortunately, when several of the local channels switched frequencies in February, the signal strength for the ABC and CBS stations in my neighborhood fell below what my digital set can pick up, so I won't be seeing the rest of the season till the DVDs come out. But I had noticed the theme of redemption in earlier seasons, especially in the relationship between Sun and Jin, and was interested in seeing where the show was going with it. . . .

In my opinion, it's just getting better this season. I rather envy you getting to see the episodes back to back on DVD; I suspect that's a better way to have a first viewing than waiting a week or more between each episode. I look forward to watching the entire series again on DVD once it's over and catching all the things I no doubt missed the first time around.
