eldritchhobbit: (LiW/King of France)
Happy August, everyone!

* First of all, I have some personal news about our Boston terrier, Virginia:
And the winner is...Virginia! )

* Second, [livejournal.com profile] ithidrial passed along some great news for science fiction television:

"The creators of anthology series Masters of Science Fiction revealed the program was always meant to be a gamble of sorts, which they and ABC will soon see will either pay off or go bust when it premieres Aug. 4. The hour-long show, narrated by famous Cambridge University physicist Dr. Stephen Hawking, tells classic sci-fi tales by famed writers such as Robert Heinlein and Harlan Ellison, and features notable actors such as Anne Heche, Malcolm McDowell ("Star Trek: Generations"), John Hurt, Brian Dennehy ("Cocoon"), Sean Astin (Lord of the Rings trilogy), Terry O'Quinn ("Lost") and Sam Waterston. Directors include two Academy Award nominees, Mark Rydell and Michael Petroni, as well as Jonathan Frakes, best known to genre audiences as Cmdr. William T. Riker in Star Trek: The Next Generation. Read the entire article here."

Moreover, SFSite just posted detailed (and positive) reviews for the first two episodes in this Masters of Science Fiction series. You can read them here and here.

* Third, I've added pictures to my Flickr photo albums.

August rushes by like desert rainfall,
A flood of frenzied upheaval,
Expected,
But still catching me unprepared.
Like a matchflame
Bursting on the scene,
Heat and haze of crimson sunsets.
Like a dream
Of moon and dark barely recalled,
A moment,
Shadows caught in a blink.
Like a quick kiss;
One wishes for more
But it suddenly turns to leave,
Dragging summer away.
