eldritchhobbit: (Pretender/Terribilis)
[personal profile] eldritchhobbit
October is my favorite month of the year, and Halloween is my very favorite holiday (and has been ever since I was small). As a gift to myself, I am going to have a bit of a Halloween geekfest this month in my LJ. Just FYI.

Before I begin, a couple of notes:

* Serenity was all I had hoped and more. It rocked my world, and I can't wait to see it again. Cheers to all you fellow Browncoats who also went or are going to the theaters this weekend!

* In related news, science fiction author Orson Scott Card (of Ender's Game fame) has reviewed Serenity. I quote: "Well, guess what. It's great. I'm not going to say it's the best science fiction movie, ever. Oh, wait. Yes I am."

* I updated almost every page of my website, and while I was at it, I also took the plunge and registered the domains for http://www.amyhsturgis.com and http://www.amysturgis.com, just for the sake of simplicity.

And now, on to the first installment of my personal Halloweenfest:

Another fun meme brought to you by rfreebern.

I understand the toothbrush, but the 3.5 floppy disc?

And a quote for the day:

Through the ghoul-guarded gateways of slumber,
Past the wan-mooned abysses of night,
I have lived o'er my lives without number,
I have sounded all things with my sight;
And I struggle and shriek ere the daybreak, being driven to madness with fright.

I have whirled with the earth at the dawning,
When the sky was a vaporous flame;
I have seen the dark universe yawning
Where the black planets roll without aim,
Where they roll in their horror unheeded, without knowledge or lustre or name.

I had drifted o'er seas without ending,
Under sinister grey-clouded skies,
That the many-forked lightning is rending,
That resound with hysterical cries;
With the moans of invisible daemons, that out of the green waters rise...

That picture of you is utterly adorable!

I'm very glad to hear you liked Serenity. I've seen mostly wonderful responses to it on my flist. Hopefully I'll be able to catch it sometime soon.

I look forward to the geekfest :D

LOL! Thanks. I think of it as my first fandom picture. I do have front teeth now, but I'm not a lot taller. LOL.

I don't think you will be disappointed with Serenity. I'd easily give it five stars out of five. I was worried about being disappointed because I was so excited about it, but that wasn't the case at all. I'll look forward to your thoughts once you've seen it.

Oooh, I agree. Do you have a favorite Halloween film? We try to rotate them for something a little different each year. I love the marathons, though, and this year's Masters of Horror series on Showtime sounds interesting. I'm also a sucker for those AFI countdown specials, such as "The 100 Scariest Films of All Time" - probably because I like to mock them when I think they're wrong. Ha.

Well, I realize they're not the best movies, but I have a Halloween tradition of watching the "Halloween" series... in college we used to do a weekend marathon where we'd watch them all...now I usually stick to the 1st, 2nd, and H20 :-p

But then, it's always fun just to watch whatever crap they show on TNT or USA... speaking of which, I miss TNT's MonsterVision

Ah, MonsterVision! That was fun! I have a soft spot for the Blair Witch Project, I must admit. We usually rotate them. I think last Halloween was The Attic Expeditions. Before that, Gothic. And we usually work in some Lugosi or Chaney or other old school horror, too. We just recently rewatched Rosemary's Baby - fun stuff.

No problem - gummy worms work for me, too. :) It's probably unfair to say I'm having a geekfest this month, when I've actually been having a geekfest for thirty-three years and counting. So don't worry. You won't miss anything you can't catch up on! I hope you have a fantastic trip. Enjoy! :) *hugs back*

Uncle Howie is not known for his poems. He should be. There's real beauty there, but then I find beauty in a lot of his words. Something doesn't have to be hearts and flowers to be beautiful. *loves*

I am so embarrased to say this, but I had never even heard of Serenity or Firefly at the time, your original post came out. Since then I have been redeemed. I was DVD shopping at Target about a month ago and they had the entire series on sale. I had 1st heard of Serenity at DragonCon this year when the longest line EVER was for Serenity, but I had no clue what it was. Ok so now I have the series on DVD and yea I am loving it totally. I will soon be shopping Amazon and Deep Discount and other online stores for the movie cheap.

Really good review by Orson Scott Card and oh my I would soooo love to see Enders Game made into a movie, if it could be done like Card describes. How awesome.

I told you I would be doing some late comments on some of your post. There is so much to reply to. It may take several sessions to get it all.

Hope you are having fun in Vegas, but there will be no sleeping I am sure. It is such a great place.
