Remembering Forever Knight
Oct. 15th, 2005 08:54 amMy quotes for the day come from Forever Knight, the series that ran from 1992-1996 about the vampire Nick Knight (Geraint Wyn-Davies) who tries to redeem his past actions while serving as a policeman in Toronto.
First, here are two of my favorite quotes from Lucien Lacroix, Nick's 2,000-year-old vampire master:
"What a wonderful thing humanity is: passionate, intelligent, inquisitive, generous, full of hope and joy, noble of spirit - and above all, delicious."
"If you love something, let it go. If it doesn't return - hunt it down, and kill
it."
Second, the opening lyrics to the "Suite from Queen of Harps":
It's a low wind rising the sun to break
Souls on the water
Winter chill takes your breath away
I'll be the ocean's daughter.
And last, the lyrics to "Touch the Night," a song played in "The Raven," the vampire-owned night club in Forever Knight. It's a rather Halloween-friendly song.

In the darkest reaches of the heart
You find a crossroads there
"Touch the Night"
from The Original Television Soundtrack: Forever Knight
In the darkest reaches of the heart
You find a crossroads there
Without a sign, without a mark
Where only others dare
You can touch the night
It's only hard to understand
You can touch the night
Like the touching of her hand
See the others seeking truth
They don't know where to look
We can see behind the stone
And go where we must go
You can touch the night
It's only hard to understand
You can touch the night
Like the touching of her hand
Like the moon that tracks the wolf
We seek another light
It can always pull us through
Help us reach an endless night
We can touch the night
It's only hard to understand
You can touch the night
Like the touching of her hand
In the darkest reaches of the heart
You find a crossroads there
Without a sign without a mark
Where others only dare
You can touch the night
It's only hard to understand
You can touch the night
Like the touching of her hand

Date: 2005-10-15 03:55 pm (UTC)And Lucien Lacroix was one of, nay he was the reason to watch Forever Knight. Nick got a bit whiny after a while.
And am I the only person who remembers watching the pilot with Rick Springfield as Nick, and his wall of TVs that would play video sunrises for him? I actually prefered Rick as Nick, myself.

Date: 2005-10-15 05:50 pm (UTC)I thought Geraint was way cuter, too. Which of course is the main point. :)
Didn't they eventually wind up using the same plot from the pilot in one of the actual shows? With the same little green mugs, even? Or am I dreaming that?

Date: 2005-10-15 10:00 pm (UTC)I freely admit my prefrence for Rick may be due to a) distance (as time gets further, memories get warmer and fuzzier), and b) as a child of the 80's, I am obliged to like Rick Springfield. It's some sort of Federal statute. :)
As for plot recycling,I wouldn't be surprised. The original pilot was made something like one or two years before the actual show started IIRC, and from what I understand a lot of people missed it.

Date: 2005-10-15 11:36 pm (UTC)I understand why Nick seemed a little whiny at times to you, but I also think he was a fascinating character - and Geraint Wyn Davies, besides being a cutie, did a nice job of capturing his naive idealism as well as his weariness. And he was a cutie, and not exactly in a traditional leading man kind of way. I actually liked Janette an awful lot. And of course Lacroix was just so snarky and mean, you had to love him.

LaCroix: "The usual...making your life a living hell."
Nick: "It already is."
LaCroix: "You say that as if it's a bad thing."
