Yesterday's Can't Stop the Serenity charity event hosted by the Charlotte Browncoats was a definite success. (Other CSTS events are being held around the world.) The music concerts were wonderful, as was the raffle (you can see pictures of the handmade character dolls that were raffled here and here), and this year a screening of Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog was added to Serenity, which was great fun. Most importantly, money was raised for a worthy cause.

There were Jayne hats aplenty: on dolls, on bears, on human heads, and, as you can see, as costumes.

That's a great idea for a post -- genre-launching books. Although, as you say, a few are very arguable. Transhuman Space Opera -- surely Corwainer Smith invented that! Or Olaf Stapledon...

But of course, it's meant for discussion :-)

Yes, exactly! Where's the Olaf love? Sometimes I think those list-makers deliberately skip an obvious choice, just to incite readers to respond. Or perhaps I'm being too easy on them!

No, deliberately skipping is definitely the greater sin than mere omission!

I can't believe she's dressed not *with* a hat, but AS his hat! LOL! Great pic!

LOL! I know!!! It was quite a feat of craftsmanship, too - especially the "pom-pom." ;)

What astronaut in their right mind would volunteer to don the red shirt? LOL I was thinking yesterday that a really good red starfleet uniform with a target on the back would be a fun costume, but I am sure I am far from the first person to think of it.

Love the costume! I wish I could have been there, but I'm glad it was fun and a success!

*cackles* I had the very same thought. And I really like your costume idea!

Isn't it a hoot? The "pom-pom" hat was especially clever, I thought.
