Happy birthday to [livejournal.com profile] lynn_maudlin, and best wishes for many happy returns of the day!

In other news...

* The complete soundtrack for the fan-made film The Hunt for Gollum is now available for free download here, and it's wonderful!

* From Liz Rosenberg at The Boston Globe: "Young Adults Feel Affinity With Supernatural Characters in Books." Ya think?

* From SFSignal: "Guide to International Science Fiction/Fantasy, Part II." (Part I is here.)

* Librivox.org has released its "Short Science Fiction Collection #20," which includes readings of stories by Kurt Vonnegut, William F. Nolan, and Philip K. Dick, among others.

Congratulations to my friend, comic book writer Dwight L. MacPherson, and his artist colleague Igor Noronha, for winning the comics competition at Zuda Comics this week for their steampunk comic Sidewise! This means that Sidewise will now become an ongoing series.

Here's the premise: When Adam Graham traveled back in time to Victorian London, he never dreamed he’d be fighting for his life against robots, science-sorcerers, a ruthless state assassin, and a dead Queen’s brain!

And here's the trailer:

For what avail the plough or sail
Or land or life, if freedom fail?
- from "Boston," Ralph Waldo Emerson

The original "Dracula", published in 1897 by Bram Stoker, comprised a socio-political commentary on the desiccated, blood-sucking upper class.

Wha-huh?!?!? It distresses me whem some literary deadbeat goes and presents their own half-baked interpretations as the author's original intent.

LOL! Literary deadbeat, or literary undead-beat? Sorry, couldn't resist. ;)
