It's almost that time! Convention Reporter is bookmarking the schedules of those of us who will be posting reports and pictures from Anticipation/the 67th WorldCon in Montréal, so I wanted to post my revised and finalized schedule for the con (which includes a few small changes from the previous version I posted):

Saturday, August 7

3pm: Autograph Session

10pm: "It's a Disaster" (Disaster movies reflect their times. From nuclear war to terrorism to eco-catastrophe, what do these movies tell us about ourselves? Do they help us deal with our fears or just make things worse?)
Media Track, Session 263, Location P-513C, 1 hr
Panelists: Daniel Grotta, Laurie Mann, H. G. Stratmann, Me

Sunday, August 8

2pm: "Eh?: The Revival of Audio SF" (One of this year's Hugo nominees for dramatic presentation is a nine hour audiobook. Are fans ready for an audio SF revival? Should these be acted out or simply dramatic readings? Is audio SF ready for the 21st century?)
Media Track, Session 332, P-524B, 1.5 hrs
Panelists: Joe Mahoney, Nicki Lynch, Robert Wiersema, Tobias Buckell, Me

5pm: "Apocalypse and Dystopia"
Scholarly Track, Session 646, P-523B, 1.5 hrs
My independent presentation: "Anticipating Worlds Gone Wrong: Contemporary Young Adult Dystopias”
Other presentations in this session are by Allan Weiss, John J. Pierce, and Thom Bryce

Monday, August 9

12:30pm: "Hard SF: Is it What You Do, or How You Do It?" [Many critics - including David Hartwell - argue that hard SF is as much defined by an attitude (how you depict science in an SF story) rather than to do with detailed depiction of science. So a story like Ted Chiang's "Tower of Babylon" could be hard SF whilst being based in a completely imaginary scientific foundation. Is this a useful way to see things?]
Literature in English Track, Session 588, P-511A, 1.5 hrs
Panelists: Marc Schirmeister, Joël Champetier, Gabrielle Harbowy, Me

I will be around for the entire con, and I'll certainly be attending the Hugo Awards and Prometheus Awards ceremonies, among other things. Stay tuned for more!

:::sighs:: Man, I wish I could attend WorldCon. It's actually been a dream of mine for ages. Unfortunately, it's sandwiched between Otakon (which I'll hopefully be skipping next year for Comic Con) and Dragon*Con. I really hope you have an excellent time though and please post your experiences this year. ^.^

Thank you so much! I'll definitely post about it - I'll be trying to get pictures, too! I hope you'll be posting about your adventures at Dragon*Con. It should be great this year.

I went to my first (away, multi-day) con in 18 years recently (Historicon in Lancaster). I think it was held the same weekend as Otakon.

I think I might go to Baltimore Comic Con this year, I got the bug.

lol It just takes one. ^~; As much as I love most of the ones I attend, I would love to go to a more literary SF con ala WorldCon since I am an avid reader (more so than watch TV anymore). I can read up to 100 pages a day. :3

Fantastic! Congrats on being bitten by the bug. ;) This is my twelfth con (if I don't count separately cons I've attended more than once), and next year, MarsCon will be my thirteenth. I really enjoy taking part in them! I hope you make it to Baltimore Comic Con this year.

You have a schedule already?? Well done you! We're in Montreal sightseeing before the con and enjoying it in a laid-back way - I may well make it to the apocalypse panel and heckle you there :)

I'm headed that way now! It sounds like the weather's great there. I do hope to get to see you - please introduce yourself if you come to my talk or one of my panels. (We Qui-Gon fans must stick together! LOL.) Have a fantastic time!

If you ever do a con out this way, I am SO there! Thought I'd mention that I am going to see (I think, still working out details) a performance of "Ray Bradbury's Yestermorrows" this Friday. And I have an advance screening of District 9 this weekend. Woo hoo. ;o)

Thank you so much! It would be fantastic to meet you in person. It's been a couple of years since I lectured at UCLA - I really need to get back out to your neck of the woods! I would love to hear more about the Ray Bradbury event - please enjoy it for me, too. It sounds fantastic! And I'll be interested to know what you think of District 9. It's generated so much buzz, and I'd love to know your opinion of it.

Yes... UCLA... good idea! And you'd be welcome to stay in my guest room. I'm only about 15 mintues from UCLA. ;o)

Forgot to mention, I also have this on tap this week. Another event you'd probably like!
