* Will Hart has posted Lovecraft's Providence, From a Different Angle, a visual record of "Providence and Beyond at the Time of H.P. Lovecraft’s Centennial in 1990." You can see all the pictures here on Flickr.

* The grandson of C.M. Eddy, Jr. -- an early genre author who was a close friend to H.P. Lovecraft and Harry Houdini, among others, and frequent writer for Weird Tales and various pulp magazines -- has collected his grandfather's classic stories and is making them available in new collections, The Loved Dead and Other Tales and Exit into Eternity: Tales of the Bizarre and Supernatural. I bought used copies of the two Eddy books on your recommendation (although the name sounds familiar, I must have read something by him), and lo and behold, Exit into Eternity turns out to have been inscribed by "to L. Sprague de Camp, March 3 1975. Sincerely, Muriel E. Eddy." No wonder it seemed a bit overpriced!

This was even better than when my copy of Lord Halifax's Ghost Book turned out to have been first purchased by Canon C. C. Marshall, late vicar of St. Chad's, Far Headlingly, Leeds, as a Christmas present to himself in 1936. (I was able to figure out the name from entry I4 on this geneology page)

I also have a book on the English Civil War that seems to have come from the library of Jay Luvaas, a historian who died last year. It's a wonder books aren't haunted (except of course when they are...)
