I'm back! I hope everyone is enjoying a restful and peaceful holiday season. Thanks to all who sent emails and cards - I loved each and every one! - and thanks to [livejournal.com profile] thrihyrne (the friend who brought me to LJ in the first place) for the special gift of LJ mistletoe.

Happy belated birthday to [livejournal.com profile] primsong! I hope you had a wonderful birthday and will enjoy a fabulous new year.

A couple of quick notes:

* R.I.P. Gerald R. Ford (1913-Dec. 26, 2006). There is a most wonderful picture of him here as a child with two Boston terriers, a truly touching visual piece of history.

* R.I.P. Margery Krueger (1940-Dec. 20, 2006), who published novels and short fiction under the name of Jayge Carr, including 1980's Leviathan's Deep. (Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] marthawells for this news.)

And a couple of memes:

So appropriate!...

Gort! Klaatu barada Eldritchhobbit!

And here I was, feeling rather inexorable anyway...

Reverend Lady Eldritchhobbit the Inexorable of Colquhoun St Cahoon
Get your Peculiar Aristocratic Title

The leaves drift toward the earth like ships to land,
A voyage launched from timbers' great lofty berths,
Toward harbors safe, concealed from raider bands,
Of icy galleons coursing wintry dearth.
Squirrels don thick coats against Wind's numbing dare,
Mount last determined searches 'long the ground.
Brown grass conceals the season's paltry fare,
As hopeful birds scratch for what may be found.
Through frosted windows glow the hearth's warm light,
As fading day casts shadows 'cross the lawn,
And grey meets grey as winter gathers might,
Undaunted as the chimney starts to yawn.
Farewell brave day as twilight draweth nigh.
Perchance on morrow sun will gather high.
- Dan Young, "The End of a Winter Day"

Was that inexorable or irrepressible? hmmm, possibly both. I, Her Grace Lady Estellye the Unusual of St.Winifred by Winchelsea was, in fact, feeling rather unusual, but there isn't anything unusual about that.

OMG... I haven't had the TV on and missed that Ford passed. I'm so, so sorry to hear it.

James Brown on Christmas Day, as well (not that I had an attachment to him.)

Welcome back!

I should've mentioned James Brown, too! Very sad indeed. Another legend lost.

Thanks for the welcome back. *hugs* I promptly became so snowed under that I disappeared again! But I'm making progress. I hope all's well with you!

Happy Holidays!

PS--yeah, that was sad about Ford. He's the first president I remember very well:(

Me too! I remember my elementary school class took a field trip to hear him speak when he visited my home city.

I'm very glad to see your posts again :). I do feel sad about former President Gerald Ford, and will probably watch his memorial on Friday.

P.S What a touching poem, although I wish that Winter would leave my state for a while. We have another blizzard coming on :(.

Hello there! :) I'm so sorry I promptly became buried under work as soon as I returned. I didn't mean to stay so quiet! I hope all's well with you and your weather.

They were great - thank you! I just got snowed under with work upon my return, but I'm seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. I hope all is well with you, too. *hugs*

I'm so glad.
