* I must admit that I was so struck yesterday by the death of a personal hero, Patrick McGoohan, that I failed to post about the loss of a remarkable talent, inspirational activist, and true gentleman, Ricardo Montalbán. This is very sad news indeed, and my heart goes out to all of those who were touched by his life and work.

* On a happier note, here are some links about the upcoming year in genre film:

"Look! Here I am, caught up in this fragment of chronology, in this bit of bone and flesh and water which makes up my mortal body, and yet I am also part of that which is not imprisoned in time or mortality. Partaker simultaneously of the finite and the infinite, I do not find the infinite by repudiating my finiteness, but by being fully in it, in this me who is more than I know. This me, like all of creation, lives in a glorious dance of communion with all the universe."
- Madeleine L'Engle, A Stone for a Pillow: Journeys with Jacob

Indeed, I didn't know about Patrick McGoohan until I went looking for Ricardo Montalban's obituary. I had the great pleasure of seeing Ricardo Montalban perform in person -- he was definitely a true gentleman!

That's a lovely quote from Madeleine L'Engle -- I'm not familiar with that work, I'll have to look it up and read it!

KHAAAAAAAAAAAAAN!!!!!

But the title of Lesbian Vampire Killers doesn't make clear whether the protagonists are lesbians who kill vampires or killers of lesbian vampires or just lesbian vampires who kill people.

Yes indeed! Revenge is a dish best served cold, and it is very cold in space.

But isn't that the genius? You're drawn in, knowing only that, somehow, vampirism, lesbianism, and killing are involved. You must know more. ;)

Oh, wow, the deaths of two amazing people in such a short time (I admit not knowing much about Mr. McGoohan, although I have seen some episodes of The Prisoner and liked them).

The good thing is that both men had such long, productive lives filled with doing what they loved.

Many, many thanks for the birthday wishes, your sweet and thoughtful card, and for the shout-out to my website! Woo hoo!!! :D :D I hope that this year, this liminal year to 40, will be one in which I learn much, write much, and am not overly bruised by the world or poor choices. :P I think that this may be the year in which I really begin to more continually Do Things Well. It's my hope and aspiration, anyway.

Thank you for being a dear and supportive friend. ♥

What an amazing quote by L'Engle. Thank you for sharing that. It resonates with me hugely. (BTW, I'm just getting around to catching up on the blogs I follow, was in Paris for a week and since then, very busy!)

Thanks so much! I too found this quote by L'Engle to be very powerful.

Welcome back from your trip, by the way!
