eldritchhobbit: (Halloween)

Thanks to everyone who participated in my Mad Scientist Poll. At the time of this posting, the results are as follows:
First Place: Dr. Horrible from Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog
Second Place: Dr. Walter Bishop from Fringe
Third Place: a tie between Dr. Frank N. Furter from The Rocky Horror Picture Show and that guy in the "She Blinded Me with Science" music video ("Science!")
Fourth Place: Dr. Miguelito Loveless from The Wild Wild West
I'll be posting a new poll in a few days.

Now for a blast from the past, here's a trailer for the 1933 classic The Invisible Man with Claude Rains:

Spooky Text of the Day: Today's story is "Four Wooden Stakes" (1925) by Victor Roman.

Excerpt:
"I don't know what ye wants to go out there for, stranger, but if yell take the advice o' a God-fearing man, yell turn back whence ye come from. There be some mighty fearful tales concernin' that place floatin' around, and more'n one tramp's been found near there so weak from loss of blood and fear he could hardly crawl. They's somethin' there. Be it man or beast I don't know, but as for me, I wouldn't drive ye out there for a hundred dollars cash."

Read the complete story here.

Can you be sure people didn't vote twice in you poll? I wept when I saw the results, although, for the life of me, I cannot remember who I voted for :p

I think people can vote more than once, but only if they log in under different LJ names. It's limited to one vote per LJ.

Weep not! There will be more polls, and perhaps your choice will win then! All is not lost!

It looks like you voted for Dr. Evil from the Austin Powers films. Does that sound right?

It does, sadly, so sadly.

Four Wooden Stakes is one of those stories that I so badly want someone like Hector Barbossa to read aloud. :D

Thanks so much! I would love to use some of them. It looks like the "blog this" option is disabled on your pictures - how does that work, then, to link to one? Should I download it and then re-upload it elsewhere, or something else? (Sorry for the troglodyte question! I just want to be sure I'd do it the way you'd like.) Thanks again!

Oh, is it? I thought I had enabled that. I'll go change it. I may have it set to family only right now.

OK, I just set it to allow any contact to blog. Let me know if that doesn't work!

Thanks a million! I've got a special picture lined up for tomorrow, but then, with your kind permission, I'm going to be posting several from your wonderful collection. You take some of the most beautiful photos - and, of course, I'm partial to your subject matter, as well. ;)

That is one formidable-looking apotropaic angel! It looks like he might be blind, like Uziel in The Prophecy.

Ooooh! I'd forgotten about this film. I saw it in the theater, but it's hard to believe that was so many years ago. Nice (and creepy) comparison!

Oh, foolish Claude Rains! Why must you meddle in things men should leave alone?
