eldritchhobbit: (Star Wars/Obi-Wan/Not Defeat)

Happy belated birthday to [livejournal.com profile] crackferret, and happy early birthday to [livejournal.com profile] actourdreams, [livejournal.com profile] otoselkie, [livejournal.com profile] sailingwest, and [livejournal.com profile] coppervale. May all of you enjoy many happy returns of the day!

Last night we attended Star Wars in Concert. It was absolutely magical. Anthony Daniels did a terrific job of hosting the evening, and the combination of the symphony, choir, and film clips was spectacular. There's a great review of the event here at SFSignal that describes the night very well.

I managed to get several decent pictures from the related Star Wars exhibit, including one of Yoda and one of Han Solo encased in carbonite. You can see the rest here.

Han Solo in Carbonite at Star Wars in Concert 2009 in Charlotte, NC

If you have the opportunity to attend this show during its tour, I highly recommend it!

β€œ The Force is what gives a Jedi his power. It’s an energy field created by all living things. It surrounds us and penetrates us. It binds the galaxy together.”

Awesome! How was the sound? (Sorry, am a curious little geek about such things, lol). I'm betting it was amazing.

Also, that Yoda clearly means business. XD

The sound was fantastic! They really kicked it during the "Imperial Death March" (awesome) and the choir was amazing on "Duel of the Fates." It was fascinating to watch how well timed everything was, because they played a film montage for each song, and in several cases there were bits of dialogue that they kept in, so the symphony had to be spot-on syncing with the video.

Yoda's expression would totally put the fear into you. I wouldn't want to tangle with him.

My pleasure! It was an amazing night. It was especially fun to see how many kids came in costume and brought their own lightsabers. ;)

Oh gosh, I would just love to see that! I am so glad you had the chance and it was as wonderful as it should be. Great shot of Han in carbonite, there. I would have been tempted to melt that sucker and take him home, lol.

It was so much fun: thirty years fell away and I was seven again. ;) There was a little child a few rows ahead of us - I mean a baby - dressed as Yoda, ears and all. So funny!

LOL! Seriously! :)

Ooh, you mean Anthony Daniels is actually hosting it, not just a recorded narration? Cool, we will definitely try to see it when it comes to Nashville!

Yes, Anthony Daniel's there in the flesh, and he's fantastic. He's clearly having a great time with it. There were times he had everyone laughing out loud, and other times he had to pause while we broke out in applause. It's put together very well, and with the exhibit that goes along with it (the doors open an hour and a half before the concert so you have time to see the props), it makes for a terrific evening. I hope you get to see the Nashville show!

Star Wars in concert! Interesting. But it looks like they're skipping the West Coast. :(

Glad you had a good time!

Thanks so much! I had a great time.

I think, for some reason, they've deleted the older dates from the website. I believe it started in the west and moved east; I know my sister saw it weeks ago, and that date's no longer up on the website. :( I hope they add additional performances; it sounds like Oklahoma City and Houston were packed, and Charlotte's arena definitely seemed to be full, from what I saw.

Sounds like such a great event. My love for SW has dimmed a little over the years, but still runs strong for Han Solo and for the music. I have heard the music performed at the Hollywood Bowl (John Williams conducts several shows there each year featuring his movie scores) but to see a comprehensive presentation would be fantastic. Glad you go to experience such a great evening... and I liked the photos, too. Is that the actual carbonite prop or is it a replica? *wants*

Oh, it would be so lovely to see John Williams conducting!

It really was a well designed show; the clips, the special effects (enhancing rather than detracting from the music), Anthony Daniels' clever parts in between each song, etc. Plus, there's something special about hearing the best music from all six films while being surrounded by fellow fans (many of whom are in costume and/or carrying their own lightsabers *g*). It was a nice touch that they had the exhibit travelling with it, too. All of the pieces were supposed to be original props (many away from Skywalker Ranch for the first time), so I assume Han in carbonite was the genuine article. It was by far the best piece there. For just a moment, I was Princess Leia in disguise, sneaking around Jabba's pleasure palace... ;)

It was fantastic. We had a great time! There's something special about being in a group of fans (in this case, an arena full) and experiencing something like that, all together at the same moment. The energy was remarkable.

better late than never?

So I was cleaning off my desk and as I put The Magic Goblet back on my bookshelf, I actually did the math and realized my story for you was TWO YEARS OVERDUE. I guess I was in some sort of delusional Twilight Zone? It's really inexcusable.

Anyway, a rough draft is all sketched out, and though you may notice on my journal that I am signing up for the Yuletide fic exchange this year, I am finishing your story before I even think about my Yuletide assignment.

A thousand apologies!

(I was re-reading bits of the book today as I worked on it, and I was struck again at how perceptive and even modern certain parts of it are. I really am glad I had the opportunity to read it.)

Squeee! This is SO exciting. I just finished teaching it in my Gothic course, so it's been especially on my mind lately. I's so excited - thank you so much! And I'm thrilled you're glad you read it, too. That makes my day.

Thanks again!

Just for fun
