* For those of you who, like me, are inclined toward all things dystopian, here's a quiz: "Which Dystopian Future Is Right for You?"

* And this: "The Nine Greatest Dystopian Music Videos."

* Speaking of the dystopian tradition, I will be giving another guest lecture this weekend at an Institute for Humane Studies seminar at Wake Forest University. Once again I'll be talking about the trend of dystopian thought in current young adult fiction. My next post will be for this presentation.

* It's that time of year again. Our butterfly bush has butterflies!

I saw a butterfly in my yard the other day, first time in years. I had lots of fireflies early in the spring but no longer, I hope I didn't get them with the mower. I always cut the back to the highest setting anyway.

No fireflies though, not since I got rid of the old aboveground pool.

It's funny you mention that. We have tons of butterflies, but not many fireflies this year.

No dragonflies since I removed the pool, not fireflies. Black with iridescent blue highlights.

Our buddlehia is in bloom but sadly bereft of butterflies just now.

Yours knock mine into the shade, anyway. Red Admiral, Small Tortoiseshell, Peacock and even the occasional Painted Lady. But Swallowtails????

I feel very doeprived...

Wow, you really know your butterflies! :) Thanks for your kind words. I hope your buddlehia is full of butterflies soon. These just turned up here this past week, so maybe yours are on their way.

Wow! Your butterfly bush has gorgeous butterflies!

That's one of the varieties I saw in abundance on my drive South through Virginia.

Thank you so much! I think they're lovely. I'm amazed they stayed still long enough for me to take a picture.

BUTTERFLIES!!! Flutter by, butterfly!

I looked at the dystopian music videos to see if I knew any of them. Tegan and Sara is one of my favorite musical acts (I mean... that's Tegan in my icon thingy). Interesting that that video made this list.

I thought of you when I saw Tegan and Sara on the list. I was impressed that someone else remembered Queen's video. That takes me back, way back!

Yay for butterflies! My sister has a butterfly garden where you can watch the painted beauties flitting back and forth from the comfort of her porch.

Your sister's butterfly garden sounds absolutely gorgeous. I bet she's really enjoying it this season!

She is. Especially since the porch is covered and has ceiling fans. A pleasant place to relax, even in the hottest weather.

I visited Chippokes Plantation in Surry Co., VA a few weeks ago and they had a garden literally covered in butterflies. Good thing my camera has a micro-setting so I could get some close up snapshots.
