eldritchhobbit: (Lovecraftian)

On this day in 1890, the stars were right -- and H.P. Lovecraft was born. Happy 120th, HPL!

In celebration of this auspicious day, StarShipSofa is running my unabridged narration of F. Paul Wilson's Lovecraft tribute, The Barrens.
-- Listen to Part 1 here.
-- Listen to Part 2 here.
-- Part 3 and my own tribute to Lovecraft will both be on next week's show!

"Only the silent, sleepy, staring houses in the backwoods can tell all that has lain hidden since the early days; and they are not communicative, being loath to shake off the drowsiness which helps them forget. Sometimes one feels that it would be merciful to tear down these houses, for they must often dream."
- H.P. Lovecraft, "The Picture in the House"

i baked a cake! it's a banana cake. it's not creepy, and it doesn't have tentacles. i figure i'll read 'shadow out of time' to it and see if it decides to talk to me and spill the secrets of the universe. if not, then, well, i can't be held responsible for what happens when my fork comes into the picture.

IN OTHER WORDS. OMG OMG HAPPY BIRTHDAY LOVECRAFT. \o/

One feels it would be merciful to eat this cake, for it must often dream... er, or something like that. It sounds delicious. And possibly malicious, too. Or perhaps simply so highly evolved that it regards us in the cosmic scheme of things as mere dust motes to be brushed aside and forgotten.

OMG, cake! And HPL! :D

We did the HPL tour of New England last week using Off the Ancient Track as our guide and decided that there really should be an HPL Museum in Providence and the Fleur de Lys building is just the place to have it.

My favourite lovecraftian sites include http://yog-sothoth.com and http://www.innsmouthfreepress.com/

What perfect timing for your tour! I couldn't agree more about an HPL Museum. That Fleur de Lys building would be ideal. I'd visit, for sure.

Great websites! I can't believe I forgot Innsmouth Free Press. (Awesome.)

Definitely bookmarking this! Hopefully RL will give me time to listen soon. And I have GOT to take a walking tour. There was one like last week and I didn't know about it. :/

Also, you know about these guys, right?

Thanks! :)

I love those guys, by the way. They are so brilliant. Their Scary Solstice CDs are one of my fondest holiday traditions.

Oooh, if you take a tour (what perfect timing), I'd love to hear how it goes. Enjoy for me, too, please!

Thank you so much! This is an older recording - if I'm not mistaken, with my old mic - so I hope the sound is okay. It was so much fun to read. Thanks a million for listening.

And speaking of thanks, many thanks to you for all of your wonderful Lovecraftian works!
