Text of the Day: I hope you enjoy "Lady Button-Eyes" by Eugene Field (1850-1895). Does this make anyone else think of Neil Gaiman's Coraline?
When the busy day is done,
And my weary little one
Rocketh gently to and fro;
When the night winds softly blow,
And the crickets in the glen
Chirp and chirp and chirp again;
When upon the haunted green
Fairies dance around their queen—
Then from yonder misty skies
Cometh Lady Button-Eyes.
Through the murk and mist and gloam
To our quiet, cozy home,
Where to singing, sweet and low,
Rocks a cradle to and fro;
Where the clock’s dull monotone
Telleth of the day that’s done;
Where the moonbeams hover o’er
Playthings sleeping on the floor—
Where my weary wee one lies
Cometh Lady Button-Eyes.
Cometh like a fleeting ghost
From some distant eerie coast;
Never footfall can you hear
As that spirit fareth near—
Never whisper, never word
From that shadow-queen is heard.
In ethereal raiment dight,
From the realm of fay and sprite
In the depth of yonder skies
Cometh Lady Button-Eyes.
Layeth she her hands upon
My dear weary little one,
And those white hands overspread
Like a veil the curly head,
Seem to fondle and caress
Every little silken tress;
Then she smooths the eyelids down
Over those two eyes of brown—
In such soothing, tender wise
Cometh Lady Button-Eyes.
Dearest, feel upon your brow
That caressing magic now;
For the crickets in the glen
Chirp and chirp and chirp again,
While upon the haunted green
Fairies dance around their queen,
And the moonbeams hover o’er
Playthings sleeping on the floor—
Hush, my sweet! from yonder skies
Cometh Lady Button-Eyes!

Date: 2010-10-23 08:44 pm (UTC)Unfortunately, I can't be there this year. I was planning on it, but then another event got rescheduled, and I need to be there. So I'll be in D.C. while you're in Williamsburg.
I'll be anxious to hear your report. I hope you have a blast!

But the whole point of a costume is that it's different from your everyday look... ;-P

Date: 2010-10-22 03:25 pm (UTC)Chris and I watched several of the movies on your movie list last weekend! So far we've seen Franklyn, Dead Birds, and The Burrowers. The Burrowers is my favorite so far. :-)

Date: 2010-10-23 08:51 pm (UTC)Thanks for your kind words about my costume! I appreciate it. I'll be posting on Virginia Monday; she just finished her "fashion shoot." She's going as a jack-o-lantern this year. LOL! :)

Date: 2010-10-22 03:37 pm (UTC)My most memorable costume, because of the funny and unexpected male attention it attracted (from friends who knew me already!), was Annette from the Mickey Mouse Club. I had a t-shirt printed up with her name, had the mouse ears and such --- and stuffed my bra to about 10 times its size. My ex and I used to throw huge Halloween parties each year... he has the photo albums from those parties but I need to borrow/scan them.

Date: 2010-10-22 05:14 pm (UTC)I'm resisting the urge to say that you look like a groomed Bellatrix, posing as a Ravenclaw student...hehe.
I'd dress up but I don't think any of my friends are having costume parties this year. :(
Might have a bonfire though.

Date: 2010-10-23 09:00 pm (UTC)As a bookworm, I think I'd feel most at home in Ravenclaw. I prefer to think of the Slytherins as the evil house. :)
