Just today I was listening to one of my all-time favorite soundtracks, John Barry's Academy Award winning score for The Lion in Winter. I then went online only to learn that John Barry died yesterday.

R.I.P., composer John Barry, father of the James Bond theme, the scores for The Lion in Winter, Born Free, Dances with Wolves, and Out of Africa, and so many other excellent works.

*hugs* Extremely sad, isn't it? My iPod is full of this man's work.

John Barry was my favorite living composer. The first soundtrack I ever bought was Lion in Winter.

He will be sorely missed, but his musical legacy has shaped the soundscape of the next generations of composers.

How appropriate was that! I found the news quite poignant - the soundtrack to Dances With Wolves blew me away. It was only when I next saw a Bond film that I made the connection...

Isn't it remarkable how much his work touched our lives? Now that I look at my iPod, I realize he's there in a variety of different guises (including, as you point out, Dances with Wolves).
