eldritchhobbit: (Sherlock/Watson sweater)

Hi everyone! Apologies for being quiet of late. Lots and lots of work to do... But I just had to post about a few really wonderful things that make me happy and share them with you:

1. The new full cast media conference for 2012's The Hobbit: Part 1. See it here.

2. A new clip for 2011's Jane Eyre. See it here.

3. Here's a message from our girl Virginia, courtesy of my better half.

4. I thoroughly enjoyed Jana Oliver's new book The Demon Trapper's Daughter.

5. I am once again rereading (I've lost count of how many times I've done this) one of the seminal texts a) in world literature, b) in the Gothic and science fiction traditions, and c) in my personal life, Frankenstein, or The Modern Prometheus by Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley, in anticipation of seeing this next month:

Doctor Who Infographic

Holmes looked at me thoughtfully and shook his head.
"I never get your limits, Watson," said he. "There are unexplored possibilities about you."

I just nearly cracked a rib looking at the Virginia card. OMGROTFLMAO!

And thanks for the lead to the Who poster - I am seriously considering getting it for my desk at work... My co-workers are a disgrace. I'm on a floor with hundreds of researchers and students and not one person has been able to identify the TARDIS on my wallpaper. When I finally told the gal next to me what it was she said, "Oh, Dr. Who...That show is wierd." I mean REALLY, WTF?

In other news... I seem to be going through a Rupert Graves thing... More via email when I get a few minutes.

I'm so glad you liked the card! :)

Obviously your colleagues and coworkers need some Whovian enlightenment. Sheesh! They're lucky they have you to set them straight.

Rupert Graves is awesome. That's all.

I'm so chuffed about The Hobbit's cast! :-D

Whoa, touch of sexual tension in that Jane Eyre clip, eh?

And Eeeeeee! Sherlock in Frankenstein!

That cast is seriously brilliant. I'm ready for 2012 already! LOL.

Absolutely! I'm so glad they're really going Gothic with this adaptation, too. I can't wait. You can never have too many Jane Eyre adaptations.

I'm pretty sure that play is going to be amazing.

I'm so glad you enjoyed the book. I know I had a ton of fun writing it. It actually made me wander around downtown Atlanta when it wasn't Dragon*Con.

I absolutely loved it. The scenes sitting vigil at the cemetery, fending off the various Necros, may have been my favorite. SO eerie. The balance of wicked humor (like the reality show that had so little reality about it) and horror was just perfect. You're going to be at ConCarolinas, aren't you? I may ask you to sign a couple of copies for me, if you wouldn't mind, to give as gifts. It's too good not to share. I can't wait until it's time for me to teach my Gothic class again... *rubs hands together with glee*

I'd be happy to!! I just saw you were on the guest list at ConCarolinas and that rated an "Alright!" I had a grand time researching angel and demon legends, the fall of Lucifer etc. And then I just turned my crazy mind loose and we got those necro scenes and such. Much fun!

Why must your torture me with more news of the Frankenstein broadcast?! Now showings have been announced two hours away, so I am strongly considering a trip to see it... But honestly, the country's third-largest city should really have a showing. Just sayin'. That poster is glorious.

Also, I saw a new play last year called Hideous Progeny, about the writing of Frankenstein, and I have new appreciation for the badass that is Mary Shelley.

Mary Shelley is badassness. Badassity? Badassdom? A badass. I'd've loved to see that play. I bet it was fantastic.

I can't figure out much rhyme or reason to the US theaters carrying the live showing. We live right next to the second largest city in the whole South, and none of its theaters are showing it, but a theater in a little rural town that's not close to any major city is. Strange! I'm pretty sure it will be worth a drive, though.

So, have you found a way to crossover Sherlock and The Pretender yet? Because I think that would be kind of brilliant. ;)

I also think I need a Mary Shelley icon.
