Date: 2011-04-18 03:32 pm (UTC)And I agree: The Woman in Black looks very interesting, too! I just read the book last year and quite liked it, so I'm all geared up for this.

Date: 2011-04-15 11:47 pm (UTC)Hey, I see you quoting from Children of God. I had my socks knocked off my The Sparrow earlier this year, and wonder if the sequel is as good. Do you have an opinion on that?

Date: 2011-04-18 03:39 pm (UTC)Oh, The Sparrow is one of my very favorite novels of all time. All time. Like "take it with you when stranded on a desert island" kind of favorite.
Children of God is quite good. It really is. It didn't approach quite the same level of brilliance The Sparrow did for me, but not many do. If you liked The Sparrow and felt invested in the characters and the themes, I think it's definitely worth reading. The best part (no spoilers) is that she leaves the same kind of moral "big questions" open at the end for your contemplation, and she resists the urge to "fix" everything and tie it up with a neat bow. That would've disappointed me terribly.
I haven't reread it with the same frequency as The Sparrow, I must admit. But I'm glad that I did read it. I'm avoiding saying more for fear of spoilers, but let me know if you'd like me to be less vague. ;)

Date: 2011-04-21 03:09 am (UTC)OK, maybe it was only so-so. But it beats Swamp Truckers or whatever crap they show these days.

I laughed out loud at this. Good point.
