Happy birthday to [livejournal.com profile] chorale, and happy early birthday to [livejournal.com profile] nakeisha, [livejournal.com profile] poenari, [livejournal.com profile] ebonange, [livejournal.com profile] frodosweetstuff, and [livejournal.com profile] primroseburrows. May all of you enjoy a wonderful day and a brilliant year to come!

I'll soon be off to ConCarolinas. (My schedule is here.) Have a great weekend!

A few news items:

* This casting news regarding The Hunger Games and this casting news regarding The Hobbit (and you can tell from the details that Sir Ian provides it can only mean one particular role) make me very happy indeed.

* Librivox.org now has an unabridged reading of the 1920 science fiction/fantasy classic A Voyage to Arcturus by David Lindsay available.

* A new album by The Cars? Child of the '80s that I am, I love The Cars. I want to listen to and enjoy this. But my favorite voice in the band was Benjamin Orr, and he's no longer with us. I find myself in a quandary. What to do? (The obvious answer, of course, is to leave it for now and just revel in the glory of the new Kate Bush album instead.)

I'll leave you with a music video retrospective of the Harry Potter films, for those of you who are feeling a bit nostalgic:

Do what we can, summer will have its flies.

I'm sorry, I must be missing something. What role is it for?

No one's allowed to say yet officially, I think, but the only major role that requires a "facial" test, besides Gollum, one would imagine, must be Smaug (for the way they do the CGI). Since Benedict Cumberbatch is rightly famous for his voice, among other things, this already had been the widespread fan speculation ever since Martin Freeman let BC's casting slip at the BAFTAs, but the fact Sir Ian emphasizes his vocal and facial tests - and questions whether he'll even have a scene with his character - seems to confirm that he'll be Smaug. At least that's how I read it. :)

Ooh, that would be incredibly cool! I still kinda like the idea of Alan Rickman's silky voice for the sly dragon, but Cumberbatch is appropriate in so many fun ways.

He is so appropriate.

Have you ever heard BC's Alan Rickman impersonation? It's a scream! Very funny. And sweet.

I have vague memories of a Cars music video, primarily involving this woman being aggressively stalked (how would you feel about a periscope popping up in your bathtub with you?).

Ah, that was the eighties. Everyone expected miniature pop bands to appear in their bathtubs with periscopes. Ditto for black-and-white, animated alternate universes climbing out of comics or showing up in mirrors and windows. Ah, it was a simpler, saner time. *dissolves in laughter*

I hope you had a good time! All of those panels sounded fun. I wish I could think of something witty to say right now in response to your authoritative, moderator-ish vibe... Sigh. Perhaps later. :)

LOL! Thanks so much. It was a fantastic time. And the moderating went very well. I didn't have to go Bellatrix on anyone. LOL! ;)
