Bits and pieces here...

* The list of 2012 Emmy nominees is out. I'm quite pleased Sherlock, Benedict Cumberbatch, and Martin Freeman all received nominations. Justly so. It's also terrific that American Horror Story and Breaking Bad did so well.

* The first chapters of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets are now available for everyone to explore on Pottermore.

* A critically acclaimed 1920 silent film with an all Native American cast (including two of the children of famed Comanche chief Quanah Parker), The Daughter of Dawn, was previously thought to be lost. Now it's been found and restored by the Oklahoma Historical Society. Read more about the story here. There's also a more in-depth article in PDF form here. I'm really looking forward to the DVD release.

* I'm currently writing a book review of the brand new In Search of First Contact: The Vikings of Vinland, the Peoples of the Dawnland, and the Anglo-American Anxiety of Discovery by Annette Kolodny for Reason. Quite an interesting book.

"Nowhere is Indian resistance and survival more remarkable than in their still incompletely successful efforts to persuade non-Indians to officially recognize their survival as Indian peoples."

On a loosely related note, you recall my mentioning Cthulhu 101 by Kenneth Hite? Well he's got another such book coming out in December called Sherlock Holmes 101 which can be preordered on Amazon.

Oooh! Thanks a million for the heads up. It will be interesting to see his interpretation of the tradition.
