Back from the Shire

A Long-Expected Party 3 was a fantastic experience I'll never forget: reuniting with old friends and making new ones, enjoying brilliant music and costumes and food (enough to satisfy the most gluttonous hobbit!), and endless discussions with my colleagues and fellow attendees. I was delighted by the attendance and participation at my talks. The final night, the recreation of the Baggins birthday party under the stars and the trees, was truly magical.

It was a fantastic experience. 200 people dressed as hobbits (with some elves, dwarves, and men)... it felt like walking into the book or the movie. Amazing!

Thank you! It really was brilliant. I never heard the final tally of how many states were represented, but everyone I talked to, it seemed, came from somewhere else, from Connecticut to California, and I know there were attendees from Scotland and New Zealand as well as Canada and the US. Great fun!
