These count as cool things:
- Here's a Call for Papers of potential interest: CFP: What Can We Expect from Joss Whedon?
- J. Michael Straczynski will be adapting Kim Stanley Robinson: "Babylon 5 creator heads back to TV to write the Red Mars series."
- Speaking of adaptations, has anyone watched the new Amazon Originals pilot of The Man in the High Castle, adapted from Philip K. Dick's novel? We give it two enthusiastic thumbs up! So does The Independent: "The Man in the High Castle: From the makers of The X-Files and Blade Runner, the Amazon pilot all sci-fi fans should watch."

Date: 2015-01-23 05:01 pm (UTC)Here's another book coming out next month that might be worth checking out. When it was first announced at the MST3K Info Club, I and a few others expressed serious reservations. On my part, I had been burned by In the Peanut Gallery and was leery of an academic approach to the show. However, I changed my mind and put it on preorder when the author responded to it with good humor.
As for In the Peanut Gallery, just about every negative stereotype concerning tenured academics was on display. Not to disparage your profession, but academia has more than its fair share of pompous jackasses. Pretty much the only worthwhile features included were an interview with Joel and Trace and a recounting by Richard Sloane on his experiences directing Hobgoblins. The most obnoxious of the lot was a piece which didn't have anything to do with MST3K. Rather, it was a spittle-encrusted rant concerning the space program which just happened to use a couple of MST3K episodes to support his argument.

That's a shame about In the Peanut Gallery. :( It sounds awful.

Hey, I can't argue with the truth!

What Can We Expect from Joss Whedon?
Pointless deaths and torturing of both characters and audience?
