You don't know
when you get up in the
morning.....

and the air is sun-sweet
or maybe grey-fogged....

you don't know
that all around you

there are people
being born

and people
dying.

Maybe even people you love.

Maybe they are drawing their last breath,
maybe their eyes are looking at their family,
just....one....more.....moment......

maybe they are seeing, in memory,
every joy they knew,

every sorrow, sharp as a knife.

For us,
who welcome or farewell them,

it is a singular moment.

It is beauty,
it is the thing that makes us
human,

this 'hello-ing' and 'good-bye-ing'.

Let us love one another,
the known and the unknown,

the just-born and the all-too-soon departed.

Let us love one another.

And remember.

Let us remember,
perfectly.

Oh, I'm in tears. This is so beautiful. "the thing that makes us human" <- THIS! Absolutely gorgeous.

I love how you bring us to this, what to do about being human:

"Let us love one another,
the known and the unknown,

the just-born and the all-too-soon departed."

Perfection. Thank you so much for sharing this.

We've lost the man who defined what it was to be an alien for a whole generation.

So so sad. I'm just in shock. Somehow I never thought he'd die, not Spock, he'd go on forever...

I was afraid this would happen when I saw the other day that he was in the hospital. What a loss.

Very true.

And of all the souls we have encountered in our travels, his was the most human.

I think I've I've only ever watched one episode of 'Star Trek'. (With David Ogden Stiers guest starring. I adore him!)

But this even made me sad. Nimoy was one of those people that you just somehow ... assumed would be around forever.

Yes. The tributes from his family members have been extremely touching, and they reinforce that he was the man that his fans knew him to be.

He did indeed live long and prosper, and I am grateful that I got to see him once at Dragon*Con. May he rest in peace, for he certainly touched many lives.

He did touch an amazing number of people. I was also very moved to see the tributes from his family members.

I'm so glad you got to see him live. My sister's the one who told me the news, and immediately we started reminiscing about the time we together saw him at TrekExpo. Priceless memories!
