Happy belated birthday to [livejournal.com profile] saccage. Congrats on turning twenty-one, and best wishes for a wonderful year to come!

A few notes...

* My article "The New Shoggoth Chic: Why H.P. Lovecraft Now?" appears in the December 2005 issue of Apex Science Fiction and Horror Digest, which is on newsstands now and also available here. This piece explores what I'm calling the "Lovecraft-Tolkien connection." The issue also includes an interview with one of my favorite authors, Mary Doria Russell.

* My newest update to my "Attack of the 5'2" Woman" column, "New Year's Resolutions for 2006," is now up at Pop Thought. The teaser on the main Pop Thought page offers a warning: "You don't have to be a geek to have these goals for 2006, but it helps."

* Speaking of publication news, congratulations to the wonderful [livejournal.com profile] beledibabe on her excellent short story "Rear View Murder" in Chesapeake Crimes II! I just received my copy yesterday (Thank you!!!), and I thoroughly enjoyed the story and look forward to reading the others. I recommend it to all of those who enjoy a good mystery.

A quote for the day:

For last year's words belong to last year's language
And next year's words await another voice.
And to make an end is to make a beginning.
~T.S. Eliot, "Little Gidding"

Quote Monty Python and the Holy Grail early and often. It makes the world a better place.

Now, *that* I can do! Why, just this weekend I *demanded* that my cousin bring me a shrubbery! In response, he called out his killer bunnies to chase me from his home. (My God, those squeaking bunny slippers are *terrifying*, aren't they???)

And congrats on being published!

ROFLOL! Brilliant! Once again, more evidence for the separated at birth theory... :)

Thanks for your kind words!

Hi there! It's always a treat to see a "new face" on the LJ. I'm so excited about the Stanford Holmes project. Very cool indeed! Glad to know you agree. :)

Thanks so much! :) And kudos to you on your story. You really have pacing down to an art: you sucked me in and made me care instantly. No disposable lines or filler. Every word was integral to the story. Great work. Thanks so much for my autographed copy! *hugs* What's next for you on the writing front?

LOL! I linked your resolutions to a non-LJ friend with (whom I have shared some of your writings of interest from time to time) with the note, "more sassy geek humor and wisdom from our favorite hobbit professor." (((EH)))

By the way, I adored your Christmas card. Larry the Cucumber is my hero.

You're most welcome! I'm sorry the blurb was a bit broad and simple-minded, but the main idea was to get the reader to your website. I hope it sends some new visitors in your direction.

Happy New Year's to you, too!
