I've been putting off making this post, because I am heartbroken, and because sharing the news will make it seem very, very real. But it is real. We have lost our dearest friend and beloved girl, Virginia.

It was such a privilege to have her bright spirit in our lives for almost fourteen years. She had a fierce intelligence and a beautiful heart, and she was an integral part of every facet of our daily lives. As many of you know, she fought and prevailed against colon cancer a few years ago, and since then she had remained cancer-free. In recent days she was diagnosed with mitral valve disease and what was likely the early stages of Cushing's disease, but with medication and a special diet and careful exercise, she remained almost completely free of symptoms. Until her last day, she was happy and active and very much herself, full of attitude and personality.
Her final illness lasted only a matter of hours, but it played viciously upon her underlying health issues, and before we knew it, her valiant little heart had stilled. We are grief-stricken. It is beyond difficult to imagine life without her.
But how very fortunate we were, to be able to know her and love her and experience the joy she brought to our world.

Date: 2015-11-01 04:49 pm (UTC)You seem to already know the thing we learned that way: When the death is close, it shadows everything else, but as it recedes, your companion's life as a whole looms ever larger above it in your memory. It sounds as if you're on the way there, however long it takes you. That day will come, and what you're going through now will be an integral part of what you feel then.

Date: 2015-11-01 08:29 pm (UTC)I never got to meet Virginia face-to-face, but so much of her personality seemed to come through in your pictures of her.
Take care of yourself. *hugs*

I am very sad to hear this news.
