I found out today that Horton Hatches the Egg (http://www.seussville.com/books/book_detail.php?isbn=9780394800776) (HHTE) was published in 1940, and in my opinion, would be a worthy nominee for the 1941 Retro Hugo in the Best Graphic Story category. Thedor Giesel certainly qualifies as a fantasy writer, and HHTE may not be as well known as Horton Hears a Who, but certainly qualifies as a classic. The story has been fodder for discussions on such topics as Christianity, parenting, and adoption.

I added it to my Retro Hugo nomination ballot today. I hope others will consider doing the same. It appears to be the only work by Theodor Giesel published in 1940.
