Rest in peace, G'Kar.

If I take a lamp and shine it toward the wall, a bright spot will appear on the wall. The lamp is our search for truth... for understanding. Too often, we assume that the light on the wall is God, but the light is not the goal of the search, it is the result of the search. The more intense the search, the brighter the light on the wall. The brighter the light on the wall, the greater the sense of revelation upon seeing it. Similarly, someone who does not search - who does not bring a lantern - sees nothing. What we perceive as God is the by-product of our search for God. It may simply be an appreciation of the light... pure and unblemished... not understanding that it comes from us. Sometimes we stand in front of the light and assume that we are the center of the universe - God looks astonishingly like we do - or we turn to look at our shadow and assume that all is darkness. If we allow ourselves to get in the way, we defeat the purpose, which is to use the light of our search to illuminate the wall in all its beauty and in all its flaws, and in so doing, better understand the world around us.

I am so sorry to hear that. G'Kar was one of the many reasons B5 was so cool. He was truly a samurai. A warrior-priest. I do not know anything about the actor, but his portrayal must say something about his soul.

B5 is in my favorite top 10 shows, ever. And watching G'Kar evolve was simply an amazing feat of storytelling and acting.

I'm so sorry! Zathras was an amazing character too, wasn't he? His death, and Richard Biggs', were so shocking because they were utterly unexpected. But even though Andreas Katsulas suffered a longer illness, his death is no less tragic. The B5 community's been through a lot!

It's funny, but I wasn't a fan of B5 until after TNT started showing them from the beginning. A friend kept after me to watch, and I kept starting in the middle. It made no sense, and I just couldn't get into it. When I did start from the beginning, and then saw the first TV movie, I got it.

This series is 1st on my list of DVD purchases, just slightly ahead of The Highlander.

In contrast, this same friend wanted me to watch Farscape, so I followed the same procedure. I started with the first episode, when it came around on SciFi. I gave it perhaps 5 or 6 episodes before I gave up. It was awful. Muppets In Space, on crack. Now, I've got to catch up on 24, and start watching Stargate and Atlantis. After that, there will be enough seasons of the new Battlestar Galactica to dig into.

It never ends. But the people who bring them to us do. And some far too soon.

I saw Andreas and Richard at a con a few years ago. They were the highlights of the event for me; very witty, very nice people.

I saw them separately at different Trek Expos, and they seemed just as you described - clever, quite gentlemanly, and very grateful to and gracious with their fans. Between losing them, and losing Tim Choate, all too young, the B5 community has suffered some real tragedies. :(

I hadn't heard about Andreas Katsulas making his transition. He was quite young! G'Kar was my favorite of the Babylon 5 characters and you selected a wonderful quote. Andreas was skilled at his craft and a credit to the genre.

Well put indeed! He was my favorite, as well; his evolution and enlightenment were such key parts of the series, the real soul of its message in many ways. His work certainly will move audiences for a long time to come.
