I'm still a hostage to deadlines at the moment, but my science fiction-loving heart could go no longer without saying "rest in peace" to Darren McGavin, who not only was the title character in Kolchak: The Night Stalker (a path-breaking program), and a veteran of such great genre fare as The X-Files and Alfred Hitchcock Presents, but also stunning and incredibly poignant as Henry Black, father to Frank Black (Lance Henrikson), in one of my most favorite series, Millennium. Considering the significant influence Kolchak had on series creator Chris Carter and his works (The X-Files not least), it was highly appropriate that Carl Kolchak be Frank Black's father.

McGavin's contributions to his craft and to the genre are significant. He will be missed and remembered.

Aw. When did he die? He was in so many good scifi shows. I always loved Kolchak.

And it's also worth mentioning that he was the dad in Christmas Story, one of my very favorite movies.

He died yesterday. :( I'll edit the title line to reflect it - thanks for catching that. He was in so many things, wasn't he? I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who loved Kolchak.
Excellent point about Christmas Story, too!

Its amazing how many parallel episodes there were in X-Files to Kolchak. Its almost uncanny. You can totally tell Chris Carter was influenced by the show. Darren made that show what it was. I loved Millenium as well. Its too bad it had to be tied up so flimsily on that X-Files episode. It was nice to see Frank Black, Mulder and Scully all together at last.

Yes indeed! I couldn't agree more.

And you're right - it was nice to see Frank Black with Mulder and Scully, though they could have done a better job of wrapping up Frank's (and Jordan's) story.

That's sad :( I remember watching Kolchack reruns on the Sci Fi channel with my father.

Oh, that's sad. I loved him in Kolchak and thought he was perfect as the father in "Christmas Story." He'll be missed.

*moment of silence*

All "modern day" investigations into the supernatural owe Kolchak a debt of thanks.
