What Abominable Luck
May. 15th, 2006 08:23 amUsually nothing spells disaster more effectively than the phrase "SciFi Pictures Original Movie" from the SciFi Channel. You know it's true.
I nevertheless feel compelled to point out that this Saturday is the premiere of Abominable.
It has Jeffrey Combs. It has Lance Henriksen. It has Bigfoot!!!
What could go wrong? Lots, I know. Still, considering the cast, this may offer B-moviedom of unusual entertainment value, a sumptuous baked brie instead of a tawdry can of Cheez Whiz. I just had to share the love.
It moves like a man, eats like a beast, and kills like a monster!

And scary.
In more ways than one, at times! :)
BTW, I don't know if you saw this, but it may have pictures I didn't share with you previously. I am still gearing up for a Captain Power mini-essay one of these days. :)

Date: 2006-05-15 02:50 pm (UTC)And I can think of at least one flick with the "SciFi Pictures Original Movie" tag that didn't suck: Dog Solders.
Of course, Sci-Fi didn't make it, they just ran the debut here in the US, but it's a great B-flick. We're due for another from da casa la cheeze.

You've made an important distinction between films The SciFi Channel debuts in the U.S. (Dark Kingdom also wasn't that bad), and those The SciFi Channel makes. Good point! I meant for the latter to be the target of my sarcasm.
Mmmmm, glorious cheese.

Date: 2006-05-15 10:24 pm (UTC)I saw a Combs film for the first time last week -- From Beyond. I was favorably impressed. I'd always shied away from such films, thinking they probably got too far away from HPL, but now I definitely need to see the Re-Animator films!

Date: 2006-05-16 12:09 am (UTC)There also exists a very nice audiobook recording of Combs reading HPL's story, as well.
I like both Henriksen and Combs........
