Usually nothing spells disaster more effectively than the phrase "SciFi Pictures Original Movie" from the SciFi Channel. You know it's true.

I nevertheless feel compelled to point out that this Saturday is the premiere of Abominable.

It has Jeffrey Combs. It has Lance Henriksen. It has Bigfoot!!!

What could go wrong? Lots, I know. Still, considering the cast, this may offer B-moviedom of unusual entertainment value, a sumptuous baked brie instead of a tawdry can of Cheez Whiz. I just had to share the love.

It moves like a man, eats like a beast, and kills like a monster!

Oh, sweet mother of Christ... I just looked at Lance's imdb listing... Did he *have* to make a Pumpkinhead III *AND* IV??? At the same time?!?

Do not question the ways of The Lance. His ways are not our ways. His ways are mysterious.

And scary.

In more ways than one, at times! :)

BTW, I don't know if you saw this, but it may have pictures I didn't share with you previously. I am still gearing up for a Captain Power mini-essay one of these days. :)

With that cast, at least it will have some fun moments.

And I can think of at least one flick with the "SciFi Pictures Original Movie" tag that didn't suck: Dog Solders.

Of course, Sci-Fi didn't make it, they just ran the debut here in the US, but it's a great B-flick. We're due for another from da casa la cheeze.

My thoughts exactly.

You've made an important distinction between films The SciFi Channel debuts in the U.S. (Dark Kingdom also wasn't that bad), and those The SciFi Channel makes. Good point! I meant for the latter to be the target of my sarcasm.

Mmmmm, glorious cheese.

Indeed, for those I just have one word: Mansquito.

LOL, I can't think of Abominable without thinking Rudolf. This sounds promising, though!

LOL! Now I'll be thinking of that Abominable Snowman, in all his stop-action glory. :) How funny!

It doesn't sound as bad as the one about the alien posessed wooly mammoth. Honestly, I don't think it could get worse than that (although I did watch it, but only because it had Summer Glau in it).

Exactly! You and me both. ;) And I kept wondering: when TPTB sat around a table pitching this idea, could they keep a straight face? if you can't explain the premise without laughing, it's probably too silly to film. And yet they do it anyway.

Hm. Makes me wish I had a TV ;)

I saw a Combs film for the first time last week -- From Beyond. I was favorably impressed. I'd always shied away from such films, thinking they probably got too far away from HPL, but now I definitely need to see the Re-Animator films!

Ah, the Re-Animator films! *puts hand on heart with melodramatic flourish* I'm a big Combs fan for lots of SF reasons, but The Re-Animator is too much cheesy fun to miss. It does stray some from HPL, but it keeps the same gruesome tongue-in-cheek quality the story maintained. And it's aware of its own ridiculousness, which makes it a great delight to watch.

There also exists a very nice audiobook recording of Combs reading HPL's story, as well.

I like both Henriksen and Combs........

Combs was great in DS9. Actually, though, I'm a Gul Dukat fangirl:)

He was, wasn't he? Dukat was fantastic as well. I have a thing for Garak, too - didn't DS9 have amazing characters? Especially the darker ones.

*laughing at you* It sounds wonderful, in a truly terrible way! I think Combs is great, too.

OMG, Ryan loves abominable snowmen...too bad we don't get cable, we'll miss this one. Can you tape it for us?

From: [identity profile] eldritchhobbit.livejournal.com
So, has Ryan seen The Legend of Boggy Creek? It was a staple ingredient in my childhood. He must see it if he hasn't. It's way toooo much fun.

I'll be glad to tape this for you. Should I just send it to the VB address?

Sure, you could do that, or otherwise we can just get it from you in Toronto. Thanks!!!
