Inspired by the fact that The Science Fiction Book Club is looking for the best SF novels of the 1990s:

[Poll #747975]

Thanks for playing! :)

To add: I cannot even begin to imagine that "Snow Crash" would not be on the book club's list, and maybe at the top. I've read a lot of really good books in the 90s or from the 90s, but that one -- yeah, after "Neuromancer" (which was 80s anyway).

This assuming I can actually remember what decade my favourites were in and remember the actual titles [g] But I'll give it a whirl!

That's actually kind of tough... Looking over my library (because my mind has gone completely blank) I see that all my "modern" favorites seemed to be from the 80s and 70s. I think the closest I come is probably considered horror, not scifi - And it's probably not speculative... The Langoliers by Stephen King. I know I'd never win any "this is great literature" arguments on this one, but the bottom line is that I keep coming back to it and I absolutely love this book.

I'm going to kick myself when I remember the books I'm not thinking of now at 3am... It's true though - I really was reading mostly fantasy through the 90s.

The Handmaiden's Tale (if that counts as sci-fi) is the only one that comes to mind, but I'll check the publishing dates on my books and see if any others come up.

The Diamond Age and Cryptonomicon, both by Neal Stephenson. Two of my favorite books of any decade.

Also, by William Gibson, the trilogy consisting of Virtual Light, Idoru, and All Tomorrow's Parties.

I gave rather more than one nomination, didn't I? Oops! :-)

but there were two very good books in a series. I think one was called the Sparrow or something like that.

Sorry, I'll have to think about this more.

Hey there! You wouldn't happen to mean The Sparrow and Children of God by Mary Doria Russell, would you? Because those would be on my list! :)

Yep, that's it..........

I would also have to say "The Outlander" series by Diana Gabaldon. She has a wonderful uninverse and writes really, really well:)
