eldritchhobbit: (V for Vendetta)

Happy Guy Fawkes/Bonfire Night. Today's a great day for reading a good book or watching a good film. :)

I've been experiencing a few computer difficulties, but these will be taken care of later this week. My apologies for being so quiet. I will catch up soon. In the meantime, just a few comments...

First, R.I.P. to two genre legends:
* SF/horror author and screenwriter Nigel Kneale (1922-2006)
* SF/fantasy writer Nelson S. Bond (1908-2006)

And two quick publishing notes:
* My essay "'Strange and Fearful Imaginations': Rediscovering the Terror of Baron de la Motte Fouqué" will appear in the Winter 2006 edition (issue eight) of Apex Science Fiction and Horror Digest. (Read more about the issue here.)

* The J.R.R. Tolkien Encyclopedia: Scholarship and Critical Assessment is now available. (My contributions include the entries for Fan Fiction, The Lord of the Rings, Renewal, and The Shaping of Middle-Earth.) It's priced for libraries rather than individuals, unfortunately, but I look forward to going through it carefully.

I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!

Remember, remember the fifth of November,
The gunpowder, treason and plot,
I see of no reason why gunpowder treason
Should ever be forgot.

Glad to see you back. In case you missed it, here's something I posted on Halloween which might also be of interest to some of your regulars. It's a curious episode of the radio horror anthology Quiet, Please called The Thing on the Fourble Board. It has a definite Lovecraftian vibe to it and is probably the most disturbing piece of radio drama I've ever heard. I guarantee that, by the end, anyone who listens to this will say to him/herself, "That's just wrong!"

Yes, I can guarantee that you will. It was sick, sick, sick! Good acting and effects, though; have finally succeeded in expunging the sound of the creature from my memory. *shiver*
